I love retail – the teamwork, the planning, everything we do to create seamless, memorable interactions between the Levi's® brand and our fans. It's been part of my life throughout my 35-year career – at P&G, Starbucks, Kohl’s, and now LS&Co. So I naturally loved the chance to spend time earlier this week in San Jose at our Retail Leadership Conference, which brought together 350 of our retail and wholesale leaders from the US and Canada. These leaders and their teams deliver for us every day, taking care of our fans, continuously performing and pushing us to be better. We all work in their service, so our teams on the front line can do their best to exceed the expectations of our fans and help LS&Co. achieve our DTC-first ambitions. Spending time with these incredibly talented leaders and hearing about all that they are doing in our stores gives me the utmost confidence in our ability to deliver on our goals as a company, especially as we move towards the holiday season. To all the winners of the Pioneer and Trailblazer Awards, congratulations on your well-deserved honor! To everyone in attendance, I hope you had a great time and feel fired up for the rest of the year (and that you enjoyed your Levi’s® Stadium visit, too)! This week, thousands of LS&Co. employees around the world, including our CEO Michelle Gass, rolled up their jeans and spent a day giving back to their local communities for Community Day, our annual day of service. See what Michelle shared about her experience below. ⬇️
I can’t even begin to express how wonderful it was to take part in the 24th annual Levi Strauss & Co. Community Day yesterday. It started for those of us based in San Francisco with a stirring talk from Manny Yekutiel, founder of Manny’s Cafe, the Civic Joy Fund, and Downtown First Thursdays, about the importance of service and the need to remember that “what really matters is the impact you have on the world.” Then more than 500 LS&Co. employees – and several members of the Haas family – fanned out to 19 volunteer projects across the city that we’ve called home for over 170 years. Thousands more did likewise in more than 50 cities around the world. Their care, pride and eagerness to support our communities was the ultimate demonstration of what this company and our people are all about. For my part, I first spent time at GLIDEsf, another storied San Francisco institution, which provides meals and services to anyone who needs them in the city’s Tenderloin district. Then I joined a food distribution in North Beach run by another amazing organization, SF-Marin Food Bank. And lastly I visited the Starr King Elementary School in Potrero Hill, where our team was painting murals, replanting gardens, and pushing wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow of mulch up a hill to spread in areas all across the campus. Taking time away from work to do this for a day is a fantastic and profoundly rewarding experience. Meeting people – at Glide, SF Marin Food Bank, and Starr King – who do it day after day is deeply humbling and inspiring. I’m so impressed by the efforts of everyone we met today, and so proud of our employees all across the world for continuing LS&Co.’s tradition of working to make a difference in our communities, whenever and wherever the opportunity arises.
