The recent passage and signing of the GENIUS Act points to a even more rapid convergence of the world of finance with blockchain technology than was anticipated. Two recent speeches: by U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Commissioner Hester Peirce (https://lnkd.in/dbFu4eeb) and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Paul Atkins (https://lnkd.in/evUujPRj) point clearly to a near-term future where financial engineering graduates need to be fluent in blockchain technology and its applications. Lehigh University has been ahead of the curve in this domain. Blockchain education at Lehigh at the undergrad level started in 2018. Starting in 2021 our Lehigh University Master in Financial Engineering program has included a blockchain course targeted specifically at financial engineering students. Today Lehigh Blockchain is a substantial initiative in blockchain education, research, and undergraduate and graduate projects, with alums in several leading blockchain firms and labs. See https://lnkd.in/ej5Cb-xq where a set of tabs point to our work in each of these areas. New Executive Order Puts U.S. Research Leadership at Risk The Computing Research Association (CRA), representing nearly 300 leading academic and industry organizations, strongly opposes the new executive order on federal grantmaking. For decades, the federal–university research partnership has powered American innovation. This order replaces merit-based peer review with political approval, undermines essential research infrastructure, and allows grants to be canceled for political reasons—destabilizing the system and threatening U.S. leadership in critical technologies. Read CRA’s full statement: https://lnkd.in/gZ-KqWQ4 If you agree it’s time to protect the research enterprise that fuels America’s innovation engine, reshare this post to help amplify this message within our computing research community and beyond. #ComputingResearch #TechPolicy #InnovationEconomy #InvestInInnovation #ScienceMatters #PublicResearch #FutureOfTech #EconomicGrowth #FullyFundNSF #FullyFundCISE

What if your first weeks of college could feel less like a culture shock and more like an adventure? That’s the idea behind Leveling Up to Lehigh Life, a Campus Social Impact Fellowship #CSIF project at Lehigh University, under the faculty guidance of Prof. Michael Spear, that is developing a 2D narrative video game to help first-year students adjust to campus life. Players will be able to create a character, explore a digital map of Lehigh’s campus, and complete quests based on real experiences—from meeting their advisor to finding the dining halls to learning how to send a professional email. Mountaintop Summer Fellows Hamza Al Farsi ’28 and Ishmum Zaman ’28, along with 2025 CSIF teammate Karina Makhani ’26, are combining their skills in computer science, storytelling, and design to bring this interactive tool to life. So far, they have designed a quest system, implemented gameplay features like “object interaction” and “inventory,” and built digital replicas of campus spots like dining areas Rathbone and the Hawks Nest. What started as an idea is now becoming a meaningful pathway to help new college students feel more prepared, less anxious, and more connected before they even arrive. As the team puts it: “We wanted to create something fun—but also useful—for students like us who faced uncertainty their first year. This project gives new students a head start and a sense of belonging.” Stay tuned for a playable demo by the end of summer and a planned rollout for incoming students in 2026! P.C. Computing Research Association's CRA-I (Industry) committee has published a summary of their recent Blockchain Roundtable in their blog: https://lnkd.in/eX-bXprw That panel, moderated by Hank Korth, included Paul Brody, Elizabeth Kukka, MBA, Mark Rakhmilevich, Antonio Senatore, and Kevin W., covered a broad range of enterprise blockchain applications. The panel, which occurred before the recent passage of the GENIUS Act in the U.S. Senate, anticipated the emerging central role of stablecoins not only in finance but in business generally. The blog post includes a link to a recording of the panel. CRA-I mission is "To convene industry partners on computing research topics of mutual interest and connect them with CRA’s academic and government constituents for mutual benefit and improved societal outcomes". Lehigh University recently announced the establishment of two new University Research Centers (URCs): The Center for Community-Driven Assistive Technologies (CDAT) and the Center for Advancing Community Electrification Solutions (ACES). CDAT will explore novel ways to improve the lives of people with disabilities, while ACES will focus on creating efficient, reliable and self-sustaining energy systems. They join the Center for Catastrophe Modeling and Resilience, which was established in 2024. Together, these URCs will focus on addressing critical needs and challenges in society. 🔗 Read more about the URCs here: https://brnw.ch/21wTkED 🔗 See this story in our Spring Bulletin here: https://brnw.ch/21wTkEC
