Proven technology creating sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel from recycled waste and low carbon sources
About us
LanzaJet is a leading sustainable fuels technology company dedicated to accelerating the energy transition by embracing the circular economy. We are making safe, sustainable fuels from waste and low carbon sources a reality today. We are both an established Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) technology provider, and a sustainable fuels producer. Our patented technology, combined with our extensive know-how and deeply experienced team, makes sustainable fuels a reality today. Through the use of our patented LanzaJetTM Alcohol-to-Jet (AtJ) technology, we are able to create SAF and renewable diesel from waste-based and sustainable ethanol sources. These sources include ethanol created from feedstocks such as low-carbon sugarcane, energy crops, forest residuals, agricultural wastes, and organic waste, just to name a few. There are even existing commercial pathways through our founder, LanzaTech, that can utilize industrial waste gases to create ethanol. With such a widely available starting point, feedstock is readily available and accessible around the world. In this way, we are creating a global, fully circular, carbon recycling economy to enable the decarbonization of the aviation and transportation industries. LanzaJet was formed through the contributions of our investors which include LanzaTech, Suncor Energy Inc., Shell, Mitsui & Co., Ltd., and British Airways and participation from ANA and Breakthrough Energy. The backing from these organizations is significantly accelerating LanzaJet’s commercial deployment, and is demonstrating a joint commitment to creating a resilient, lower carbon future. LanzaJet was honored to be the presenting sponsor at Chicago Climate-Tech Week, where our VP of Corporate Affairs & Marketing Meg Whitty not only emceed the event Wednesday but also participated in a panel on the future of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (#SAF) in Illinois, the Midwest, and beyond. Huge thank you to our great panel on SAF, moderated by Karen Weigert, Director of the Baumhart Center for Social Enterprise and Responsibility, Loyola University Chicago and Chicago’s first Chief Sustainability Officer, and joined by Anthony Gregory, COO of Southwest Airlines Renewable Ventures, and Bill Bodine, Director of Business and Regulatory Affairs at Illinois Farm Bureau. The panel discussion underscored the catalyzing role that Chicago – home to major industries like agriculture and aviation, and LanzaJet’s global headquarters – and the Midwest will play in the future of SAF. On Thursday, LanzaJet’s Erik G. Birkerts, Vice President, Growth & Execution, and Evangelos Karambelas, Director, Finance & Capital Markets, sat down for a fireside chat with mHUB Co-Founder and CEO Haven Allen to discuss navigating hardtech commercialization. Throughout the week, we heard in-depth conversations focused on the challenges and opportunities in scaling sustainable solutions and driving innovation across the energy sector. One of the main highlights was a fireside chat with Governor JB Pritzker and Invenergy CEO Michael Polsky, moderated by John Pletz of Crain's Chicago Business. Governor Pritzker has been a champion for SAF and last year signed into law one of the first state-level incentives for the purchase of SAF – a huge step forward for the industry! A special thanks to the event sponsors—Rivian, ADM, KPMG, Ocient, Nicor Gas, ComEd, Illinois Institute of Technology, mHub, and 1871—as well as supporters: Innovate Illinois, Intersect Illinois, Mark Denzler and the Illinois Manufacturers' Association, Tifair Hamed at P33 Chicago, Kara Demirjian Huss, Melissa Amedeo and Molly Wilson, MBA at DCC Marketing, 1871’s Betsy Ziegler, and KPMG’s Peter Newell for their help making Chicago Climate-Tech Week a success! #SAF #sustainability #climatetech #cleanenergy #cleanfuel #hardtech #ag #agriculture #aviation #Illinois #Midwest #SomedayIsNow

LanzaJet had a great showing at the North American SAF Conference and Expo in Saint Paul, where LanzaJet took part in meaningful discussions shaping the future of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (#SAF). Our Head of Business Development, Jim Andersen, joined a panel to discuss the real progress being made by SAF producers and suppliers — and the steps needed to maintain and accelerate that momentum. Throughout the event, we had the opportunity to connect with industry leaders, partners, and innovators who are equally passionate about accelerating the shift towards sustainable fuels. It’s always energizing to see the collaborative effort that is pushing this industry forward. We’re excited for the future of SAF in North America as we continue to scale its adoption and production. #energy #sustainability #cleanenergy #cleanfuels #aviation #Minnesota #NorthAmerica #SomedayIsNow

This summer, our talented interns had the opportunity to work alongside the LanzaJet team, helping to drive innovation in Sustainable Aviation Fuels (#SAF) and tackle one of the hardest sectors to decarbonize. In a blog post, our Corporate Affairs & Marketing Intern, Megan Camacho, reflects on her internship experience, along with insights from her fellow interns. As we work toward our company vision “to preserve the world and opportunity for future generations to fully experience it and thrive,” these young voices remind us of the importance of investing in future generations. Australia is making significant strides in its commitment to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (#SAF) as outlined in the recent Aviation White Paper: Towards 2050. The country’s ambitious agenda to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and develop a robust domestic SAF industry is evident in its continued focus on innovative technologies and partnership. This commitment is backed by A$1.7 billion ($1.15 billion) in funding to accelerate the development of SAF and new feedstocks. LanzaJet is proud to be part of this momentum, with two key projects announced this year. We’re working with Jet Zero Australia to develop the nation’s first ethanol-to-SAF plant, a pioneering effort that will help establish a new standard for sustainable aviation in Australia. Additionally, our partnership with Wagner Sustainable Fuels will see the deployment of CirculAir™, our joint technology solution with LanzaTech, at their Brisbane SAF Refinery – Australia's first MSW-to-SAF facility – further advancing Australia’s leadership in SAF production. As Australia takes bold steps towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, LanzaJet is committed to supporting these initiatives through our innovative technology and strong collaborations. Our efforts are paving the way for the next generation of aviation, with sustainability at its core—both in Australia and across the globe. Progress in sustainable aviation continues with the groundbreaking of SAFFiRE Renewables’ pilot plant at Conestoga Energy’s Arkalon facility in Liberal, Kansas. This plant will convert corn stover into cellulosic ethanol, a key feedstock for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (#SAF). LanzaJet VP of Growth and Execution Erik G. Birkerts and Director of Project Development Greg Hall were on site to represent us at this landmark event. Once finished, this pilot plant will process 10 tons of corn stover daily, producing ethanol that can be upgraded into SAF with a carbon footprint at least 83% lower than conventional jet fuel. LanzaJet is proud to collaborate with our investor Southwest Airlines on a commercial project that will integrate SAFFiRE’s technology with our ethanol-to-SAF process to produce low-carbon jet fuel at scale. #sustainability #biomass #ethanol #cleanenergy #aviation #SomedayIsNow
