KPFF employee Andrew Taylor, PE, SE, PhD, FACI, is the 2024 recipient of the Henry C. Turner Medal from the American Concrete Institute!   The Henry C. Turner Medal was created in 1927 by Henry C. Turner, past president of ACI and the founder of Turner Construction Company. It is awarded for notable achievements in, or service to, the concrete industry.   This honor was bestowed by the American Concrete Institute Board of Direction specifically “for Andrew Taylor’s many contributions to the concrete industry and the Institute, including his dedicated service as a longtime member and current Chair of ACI Committee 318, Structural Concrete Building Code.”   Congratulations to Andrew Taylor!

Architecture (City Fabrick), Construction (All-American Construction Solutions), and Engineering (KPFF) came together as part of the City of Santa Ana's transfer of these public lands to these ACE students who happen to be community residents. Together A.C.E. showcased design and material features each discipline contributed to this community micro-farm, in a hope to inspire and allow these future architects/constructors/engineers to network. THRIVE Santa Ana talked though their spearheading effort to bring urban farming with local worker-owned businesses that will provide healthy foods and activities to residents like them through a community land trust. #SAUSD #CLT #ACEMentor

Congratulations to Corix and UMCI for successfully delivering district energy to the Bellingham Waterfront! Bellingham District Energy Utility is now LIVE! The BDEU delivers low-carbon heating and cooling to the Downtown Waterfront District and is helping transform the long-vacant, former pulp mill site into a thriving mixed-use community. With heating and cooling buildings accounting for a significant portion of global carbon emissions, more cities and communities like Bellingham are looking to district energy as a proven approach to decarbonize buildings, without straining the electrical grid. The BDEU captures waste heat from Puget Sound Energy’s Encogen Generating Station to provide reliable, affordable, low-carbon heating and cooling to ~200,000 square feet of residential and commercial space. It will expand over time to service 1.6 million square feet. KPFF provided civil and structural engineering for the BDEU project and was the prime consultant for the Bellingham Waterfront Project, which was the precursor to the BDEU project and provided district energy piping within the arterials.  Port of Bellingham, City of Bellingham, Puget Sound Energy #civilengineering #structuralengineering #lowcarbon #energy
