Here's the three pieces of advice I shared to the new F24 Y Combinator batch in SF last week: 1) Every early customer is a "consulting project" - when trying to build a new category-defining product like kapa.ai we found that obsessing over early users reveals insights you'll never get from just "talking to customers". Shared Slack channels. Weekly follow-ups etc. Lots of reminders. 2) Don't just innovate on product - in applied AI, everyone's focused on keeping up with research and product. Those are tablestakes. We found innovating on how customers discover and implement new tools equally valuable as adopting AI tooling is new for everybody. 3) Find your reset ritual - YC is often called the "fastest and most intense period" for a company, but there are limits to how fast you can go without burning out. My co-founder Finn Bauer and I picked up tennis and it became our daily escape from the computer. Counter-intuitive, but helped us move faster. Thanks to the best group partner Diana Hu for having us back. And congrats to all the new YC founders! 🚀
