The Project Controls Expo USA held this week at Nationals Park was a huge hit. Senior leaders in K2’s Critical Path Controls division, including President Michael Marcell PSP, SP, EVP, Vice President Nishadi Perera, Director of Earned Value Management Systems Tim Boatwright, and Vice President of Business Development Doug Davidson, were among the 800 attendees. The event was a great opportunity for the K2 team to network with other professionals, attend workshops, share best practices, and promote the importance of project controls in successful project delivery. Tim, a member of the College of Performance Management, delivered opening remarks, presented using a Bow Wave report for communicating schedule status, and participated on a panel on using Earned Value Management in the Design Phase of a project. Nationals Park was a fantastic venue for a very worthwhile and informative gathering. Look forward to next year’s Expo! Bruce A. Neiswender CCP, PSP Maha S. Government and industry leaders gathered recently in Miami, Florida for the BASC Global Conference to exchange ideas on how to protect the international supply chain amid serious security challenges and threats. Mitch Merriam, our Security Screening Group’s Vice President of Borders and Maritime Security, was one of the many subject matter experts in attendance. For Mitch, one of the highlights of the event was meeting Velma Ricketts Walker, J.P., Chief Executive Officer (Commissioner) of the JAMAICA CUSTOMS AGENCY. During a panel discussion, Velma shared the inspirational message that you must have “One Love” for the people you serve. Kathy Yurkunas E. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is focused on developing innovations to keep up with rapidly growing passenger traffic at airports, without compromising security. One of the innovations is the integration of self-screening technology at checkpoints. In an interview with Passenger Terminal World reporter Kylie Bielby, K2 Security Screening Group Executive Vice President Steve Karoly and Vice President Boyd Keith Jeffries discussed how passenger self-screening will create a more efficient and effective security system, and free up Transportation Security Officers to perform other duties. Officials in Lebanon have banned pagers on planes following last week's deadly attacks on Hezbollah. This decision has prompted questions as to whether we can expect similar prohibitions elsewhere. K2 Security Screening Group Vice President Boyd Keith Jeffries, former Federal Security Director (FSD) at Los Angeles International Airport, discussed the steps that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) can take to meet evolving threats with The Wall Street Journal reporter Jacob Passy.
