In this article, BBC News breaks down the progress that the UK is making in its pledge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. Some of the key takeaways include: ↘ Since 1990, the UK's carbon emissions from electricity generation have fallen by around three-quarters. 🌞 The proportion of electricity generated by renewables - such as wind and solar - has grown to around 40%. 👎 Despite the push for renewable energy, the government announced that it was granting 100 oil and gas production licenses for the North Sea. 🚗 Electric car sales have been faring relatively well, according to the CCC. In 2023, 16.5% of new car sales were of vehicles with electric batteries - up from less than 2% in 2019.
