🌟 Exciting news: #CarePeat is a REGIOSTARS award finalist! Did you know? Peatlands cover only 3% of land surface yet store 30% of all soil carbon – twice as much as all forests worldwide! While these ecosystems naturally store carbon, many have become degraded. Between 2019 and 2023, Care-Peat restored 7 peatlands across North-West Europe, saving 𝟗,𝟔𝟎𝟎 𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐎₂/𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫. 🔜 Next steps: Care-Peat and other REGIOSTARS finalists will present their projects to a jury on 14 October during #EURegionsWeek. These residues enter water systems as active ecotoxic pollutants and can 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲, 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, and make it 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 to produce 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿. 💡 The #InterregNWE PREWAPHARM project brings together partners from seven countries to tackle this growing challenge.
