Last week, ITI hosted a roundtable discussion examining the Global Plastics Treaty’s current negotiations, and its potential implications for companies that have operations in Europe. Following a presentation by Paul Hagen, International Environmental Lawyer, Principal at Beveridge & Diamond PC and expert on the negotiation and implementation of regional and global environmental agreements, including the Basel Convention, and Montreal Protocol, we had an engaging and open discussion that raised many important points. For companies and trade associations to effectively operate in Europe, especially in the tech sector, monitoring the development of international treaties can be key and we hope that are our discussion raised awareness of this important issue. Watch: 🎥 ITI Director of Trade Policy Kyle Johnson discusses the impact of Section 301 tariffs on U.S. consumers, workers, and businesses. Despite their initial intent to address unfair trade practices by China, these tariffs have not achieved the desired changes and have instead caused over $200 billion in added costs, hindering U.S. manufacturing, job creation, and global competitiveness for technology companies. ITI urges the Biden Administration to reconsider the tariffs, advocate for immediate mitigation measures, and enhance transparency.
