Vigo County Eviction Sealing Clinic - July 12th from 12pm (noon) to 3:30p at the Vigo County Public Library This event can help tenants remove eviction filings from their record that are eligible to be sealed. If the tenant does have eligible cases, they will have the opportunity to walk out of the Courthouse with an order removing their case from public record. Indiana Legal Services (ILS) is a a nonprofit law firm that provides free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income people throughout the state of Indiana. ILS helps clients who are faced with legal problems that harm their ability to have such basics as food, shelter, income, medical care or personal safety. Most of the cases ILS handles are cases such as family law where there is domestic violence, housing, consumer law, access to health care, and access to government benefits. ILS does not handle any criminal matters.

Hello from the White House! Megan Stuart, Director of Advocacy and former LGBT Project Director was in DC at a White House Counsel’s meeting about the civil legal needs of LGBTQ+ people. We were honored to have a seat at the table with LSC, NLADA, and 5 other legal aid organizations and to talk about ILS LGBTQ Project and how the federal government and pro bono partners can help shrink the LGBTQ+ access to justice gap.

Indiana Legal Services Applauds Supreme Court Ruling in USA vs Rahimi The Supreme Court of the United States delivered a ruling in the case of US v. Rahimi, upholding the constitutionality of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g) which prohibits individuals subject to domestic-violence protective orders from possessing firearms. “Domestic violence is a public safety and health concern. Today’s opinion ensures that trial courts have a vital tool to help ensure the safety of domestic violence survivors, their families, and their communities.
