My European Space Agency - ESA colleagues and I were at the IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS) in Athens this week. What is IGARSS? IGARSS focuses on advancements in remote sensing technologies, data analysis, environmental monitoring, and geospatial applications. What was my purpose there? 🔹 Create Awareness: Educating the remote sensing and user community about the potential of quantum sensors for Earth Observation. 🔹 Foster Collaboration: Exchanging with other space agencies and actors in the ecosystem to move towards a unified approach in advancing these cutting-edge technologies. 🔹 Provide Insight: Offering a unique space agency perspective to bridge the gap between innovative quantum advancements and practical applications in environmental monitoring and analysis. Translating Earth Observation (EO) data-user requirements into satellite system specifications, and ultimately into sensor requirements, is a highly challenging endeavor. I was particularly intrigued by the innovative co-design approach for EO data developed within the e-shape project. This methodology bridges the gap between user needs and technological capabilities, ensuring that the end products are precisely tailored to meet real-world demands. Today, the members of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya CommSensLab made the following two contributions: 1️⃣ A GROUND-BASED EXPERIMENT IN A CORN FIELD TO EVALUATE THE MULTIFREQUENCY SENSITIVITY AND COHERENCE PROPERTIES OF RADAR BACKSCATTER by Carlos López-Martínez in collaboration with Marco Chini from the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). In this work we presented the details regarding the calibration of the #polarimetric #SAR #PolSAR data of the measuring campaign conducted in Luxembourg ☘️🛰 2️⃣ AI4WATER: A DIGITAL TWIN FOR IRRIGATED AGRICULTURE by Adriano Camps and Carlos López-Martínez, and in collaboration with AgrotechUPC, on the creation of a digital twin of the Segarra Garriga channel in Lleida, Spain 💧🤖🛰 Finally, together with Othmar Frey , we chaired the Community Contributted Session "Terrestrial Radar/SAR Systems and Applications" where we were able to see the latest developments of ground based #SAR sensors. #earthobservation #remotesensing #geoscience #research #science
