Advantage Valley, West Virginia, a regional economic development organization serving nine counties that comprise the Charleston-Huntington WV Metro Region, has been awarded a $1.6 million Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) POWER grant to support its Expanding Markets program. This three-year project in partnership with local, state, and federal partners, is designed to diversify and create resilience in the manufacturing and business services sectors by driving growth, increasing market potential, and strengthening regional supply chains. ⚙️ Working through partners at the Charleston Area Alliance, Huntington Area Development Council (HADCO), Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center, and Jackson, Mason, and Putnam County Development Authorities, Expanding Markets will serve 225 unique businesses, and create 200 new jobs and leverage $25 million in new investment. The The Marshall University Foundation Inc. has announced the establishment of the ZMM Architects and Engineers Scholarship. This scholarship is generously endowed for $120,000 by ZMM Architects and Engineers, which aims to support engineering students from West Virginia. 💚 The scholarship was unveiled today in the Brad D. Smith Foundation Hall at Marshall University. During the event, representatives from ZMM Architects and Engineers, Marshall University and the Marshall University Foundation shared how this scholarship will benefit local students and contribute to workforce development in the state. The scholarship is part of the Marshall For All initiative and aims to alleviate financial burdens for aspiring engineers from West Virginia, encouraging more students to pursue careers in engineering. With the increasing demand for engineers, this initiative seeks to nurture local talent and enhance the state’s workforce. "The basis of all commerce is problem solving." - Audy Perry, Executive Director of Heritage Farm Leadership Huntington, presented by Marshall Health Network, spent this month's session on tourism! We kicked off the day at Huntington Tri-State Airport followed by a behind-the-scenes FAA Tower & TSA Tour 🛫 We heard from Anna Adkins, MPA (Huntington Area CVB) and Brandi Beasley (Village of Barboursville CVB) on the role of CVBs and an overview of Huntington area tourism. A panel on Sports Tourism featuring Mike Shockley from Huntington City Council and Andre Price from Barboursville Parks & Rec. They shared how sports can drive tourism and support our local economy. ⚽ We also learned from Dr. Cicero M. Fain III of Marshall University about the Black Appalachian Cultural Center's role in celebrating and preserving our cultural heritage. 🫶 Sarah Harmon from the WV Department of Tourism brought a data-driven perspective with her talk on tourism analytics. 📊 At Heritage Farm, we enjoyed a delicious, locally sourced lunch catered by Twelvepole Trading Post! Audy Perry shared the rich history of the farm and discussed developing a problem-solving mindset, a crucial skill for effective leadership.
