Updates

  • Chrissy has been an Independent Living Specialist at Marshbrook Place for over a year and a half. Her direct supervisor says, “Chrissy is a joy to be around, full of positive energy. She demonstrates accommodation and support for the lives of the youth at Marshbrook Place, moving everyone toward excellence.” Chrissy states, “I feel very honored to work for such a phenomenal organization doing such great work in and with the community. I chose social work as a profession to help people as a whole and because social workers are an essential part of society in various aspects. However, I chose the Huckleberry House specifically because of the great work we are doing with and for the Transitional Aged Youth (TAY) population as a whole. With the population we serve, inequalities are at an all-time high and they [the youth we serve] struggle with reaching their full potential; however, if I am able to be a part of planting seeds that will bloom along the way, I believe my purpose is being fulfilled!" #shinealight #huckleberryhouse

  • Yesterday, Huckleberry House was a proud sponsor at the Columbus Metropolitan Club's Forum titled, "Are LGBTQ+ Rights Losing Ground?" (https://bit.ly/4dPk9lu). Annually, the @colsmetroclub partners with the Lynn Greer Legacy in Civic Engagement Fund Celebrating Inclusion & Equity for the LGBTQ Community for important discussion between incredible leaders! We were grateful to be present, to learn, and to be inspired!

  • October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). During DVAM, victim advocates, allied professionals, survivors of abuse, their loved ones, and the surrounding community come together to mourn the lives lost to domestic violence, celebrate the progress that has been made to end this epidemic, and connect with others working to create change. Join us this month as we support young people who have experienced violence by wearing purple on October 17.

  • Huckleberry House gathered at Kenmore Square yesterday to get voting ready with help from our friends over at the Human Service Chamber! With the deadline for registering to vote just a couple of days away (October 7), staff and clients alike were equipped with the resources to: ✅register to vote ✅create a voting plan ✅learn about their voting rights A huge thank you to Lauren from the Human Service Chamber for being a valuable resource for attendees! Her support exemplifies the kind of community collaboration that can make a real difference in ensuring everyone has a voice in our democracy. Sonya, Executive Director, created this event not only to educate but also to empower individuals, reinforcing the idea that every vote matters!
