Changing Children's Lives since 1872.

About us

The House of the Good Shepherd was founded in 1872 in Utica, New York to help meet the needs of local children and families. Since then, The House has evolved with the changing child welfare system. We have grown into a comprehensive human service agency providing treatment to more than 600 children and their families a year. Our goal is to help children and families, who are struggling with serious emotional, social and behavioral problems, discover their ability to succeed. Children and families who arrive at The House often have exhausted every available option for remaining together. Our main location is on a 27-acre campus at 1550 Champlin Avenue in Utica, New York. The House currently employs 400 full- and part-time staff and has more than 200 volunteers and student interns. The House of the Good Shepherd is classified as a non-sectarian, non-profit corporation, and is designated as a 501(c)3 charitable institution. We provide services without regard to ethnicity, religion, or financial status.

  • 🌟 We’re not just preparing leaders; we’re building a community of changemakers ready to make a positive, lasting impact! 🌟 At The House of the Good Shepherd and Together for Youth, we believe that our leaders are at the heart of our mission. We’re dedicated to supporting their growth and well-being, as our recent Fall Leadership Day Conference shows. Over 150 leaders gathered to explore the theme, "From Surviving to Thriving: Leading with Purpose and Resilience." 💡 With inspiring insights from Dr. Bird on resilience and the “Happiness Code” and Jaydn McCune’s reflective leadership guidance, our leaders gained powerful tools to inspire purpose and resilience in their work. Special thanks to Mohawk Insurance Services, Inc. for helping make this impactful day possible. Together, we’re building a compassionate community of leaders committed to creating change. 🌍💙 #Leadership #CommunityImpact #ThrivingTogether

  • It's Bullying Prevention Month! Yesterday, we wore ORANGE to stand together against bullying and celebrate inclusion! Assistant Principal Sarah Roselli and Kayla Aponte, a Teacher at our Tilton School, joined the movement. Our incredible educators make a difference daily by fostering inclusive classrooms where every child feels valued and accepted. Through their patience, kindness, and dedication, they created safe spaces for students to learn, grow, and build positive connections. #UnityDay2024 #TogetherAgainstBullying
