The Marion Street Pedestrian Bridge in Seattle is one of the busiest pedestrian bridges on the West Coast. And its replacement was critical to the area’s ongoing transformation. HDR provided conceptual design, preliminary engineering, final design and construction management on the structure. Read how the design came together in a new article from Don Nguyen, Bethy Clark and Seattle Department of Transportation: https://lnkd.in/dP-aKZS3

Green hydrogen production is expected to grow quickly in the coming decades. To help with these emerging projects, we've developed a proprietary tool, sponsored through our unique Fellowship Program, that streamlines the evaluation of hydrogen equipment and processes. We sat down with the tool's creators, Brandon Curry, PE and Nick Barber, to learn more about how it works and what types of projects it can support. https://lnkd.in/gq32XCwb #Hydrogen #GreenHydrogen #Decarbonization

As part of our decade-long partnership with the National Park Service, we are designing the replacement of the Transcanyon Waterline and related improvements to the Park’s drinking water system. Currently under construction, when complete, this project will offer a safe and reliable drinking water system for one of our nation’s greatest treasures. The Hayesbery, a warehouse in Sydney, Australia's Rosebery suburb, has been transformed from a dye works, felt mill and hat factory into a flagship workspace for Goodman. HDR provided engineering and commissioning management for this warehouse conversion, designed to prioritize diversity, health, safety and the well-being of their people. The finished result is a masterclass in adaptive reuse, creating a tangible connection between the past and the future. Where milliners once worked, Goodman’s staff now enjoy a modern workspace with striking industrial features that are safe, aesthetically pleasing and sustainable. Meet Alison Campbell, a senior sustainability consultant who grew up in Philadelphia and is now based in our Glasgow, Scotland office. Alison works on projects such as the United Kingdom’s Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS), auditing and quantifying energy usage and preparing action plans for clients. She is also a world-class athlete, competing in orienteering—a sport focused on navigation. Alison will represent Team USA at the 2024 World Championships in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her efforts, both personally and professionally, have not gone unnoticed; she and her orienteering club recently received the inaugural Respect the Environment award from the British Orienteering Federation in May. How can airports get the most benefit from the construction manager at-risk delivery method? Timothy Fish, P.E., our east region Aviation manager, offered some practical insights gleaned from years of working on CMAR projects. He also explains why airports comfortable with CMAR may want to explore other models such as progressive design-build or integrated project delivery. Next week, high school students arrive at the University of Louisville for the INSPIRE summer enrichment program designed to introduce students from historically under-served populations to engineering. With the support of an HDR Foundation Impact Grant, this year’s program includes environmental science and wet biology as part of the experiential learning curriculum. The grant was funded by a $50,000 retirement gift from Glen Ellmers, our former water group president, and his wife, Cherie, to support a community they called home during Glen’s career.
