Our #HawthorneLaneWomen of the month is the Founder of Moms First (formerly Marshall Plan for Moms) and Girls Who Code, Reshma Saujani. Reshma is an advocate for women, seeking to close the gender gap, especially within technology. Reshma catapulted after graduating from the University of Illinois, Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and Yale Law School into corporate law for Wall Street, then shifted into politics and now public policy. She was the first Indian American woman to run for Congress and is the author of "Brave, Not Perfect" and "Pay Up, The Future of Women and Work (and Why it's Different Than You Think)". During Reshma's campaign trail, she saw weakness in classrooms where girls and women lacked presence in technology programs. This influenced her commitment to breaking stigmas against women in STEM and creating Girls Who Code, a highly successful international non-profit providing programs to teach and promote girls and women in technology. Not only a public leader and mentor to others, Reshma is also a mother. She saw the impact of COVID specifically on moms and founded Moms First (formerly Marshall Plan for Moms). Moms First is a non-profit movement pushing for better resources, work environments and equality for moms in the workforce. Reshma has constantly leaned into bravery throughout her life. Even through failure, Reshma has turned losses into wins to follow passions and make a positive impact on women of all ages across the globe. She has been recognized by Fortune World's Greatest Leaders, Fortune 40 Under 40, Forbes Most Powerful Women Changing the World, and many more.
