Managing Partner Kristina Daniel Lawson was invited by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission this week to tour the impressive Hetch Hetchy System, which provides some of the cleanest water supply in the state to 2.7 million citizens, businesses, and community organizations in San Francisco and through its 26 Wholesale Water Customers -- cities and water districts -- in Alameda, Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. Hanson Bridgett values and celebrates this remarkable infrastructure, originally constructed over a century ago, not only as individual customers and constituents, but also since for more than half a century we have been Legal Counsel to Bay Area Water Supply & Conservation Agency (BAWSCA), the special district formed to represent the interests of the system’s Wholesale Customers. This gravity fed joint water and power system, still performing well a century later, is a testament to California’s groundbreaking innovation. In fact, a major facility in the system is named for famed City Engineer Michael O’Shaughnessy, who not only oversaw the Hetch Hetchy Project but also helped to create another one of Hanson Bridgett’s treasured long-term clients, the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District, formed in 1923 to build the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. As Allison Schutte, partner and Government Section Leader notes, “Hanson Bridgett has been deeply involved in implementing key infrastructure in California since the Firm was founded in 1958. In particular, we have been focused on supporting the water systems our communities rely on for decades. Our work with BAWSCA centers on ensuring that San Francisco maintains infrastructure to continue to provide reliable, high-quality water at a fair price.” In addition to Allison’s service as legal counsel to BAWSCA, Hanson Bridgett’s Nathan Metcalf and Sean Herman provide crucial water rights representation in the ongoing State Water Board Cases regarding the implementation of the Bay-Delta Plan and are the strongest voices in the litigation focused on safeguarding water rights needed to support housing in the San Francisco Bay Area. #hansonbridgett #BAWSCA #hetchhetchy #SFPUC #infrastructure #BayDeltaPlan #WaterRights #waternerd

Firms are seeing a boost in demand for intellectual property work including trademark litigation. Partner and Los Angeles Market Leader Raffi Zerounian recently told The Recorder that this is in part due to “a lot more online infringement and nefarious third parties using well-known brands to attempt some sort of gain.” Our Intellectual Property practice group works quickly and efficiently to combat fraudulent schemes on behalf of clients. #HansonBridgett #IPLaw #CALawyer

Such a great summer! Thank you to Paz Moya and Isabella DeLeon for managing and coordinating a fantastic program and thank you to Tracy Tinclair for all of the support along the way. Dream Team 🌟 ✨ 🌟 #HBLife #HBSummerAssociate
Another great summer has come to an end. Last Friday was the final day of our 10-week 2024 Summer Associate Program and 2024 Sacramento County Bar Association (SCBA) Fellow Program. Our Summers, LCLD Scholar and SCBA Fellow worked on a variety of real and meaningful assignments, providing them with a great sense of what it’s like to be an associate here at Hanson Bridgett LLP. We also had a lot of fun together connecting at a variety of summer events including a city scavenger hunt, bocce tournament, mini golf, bowling and more in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. A huge thank you to all the HB attorneys who supported this year’s Summer Program as Summer Coordinators, Mentors, Writing Coaches, Recruiting Committee members and to the many attorneys and professional staff who attended our summer events and worked closely with our summer associates. Samantha Abril, Alyce Cho, Sofia Cutler, Kyle Koats, Myles LeBlanc, 1L LCLD Scholar Nicolas Pierce and 1L SCBA Fellow Taj Harris. Thank you to each of you for a great summer and for all of your hard work! #HBLife #HBSummerAssociate
