About us
The Golisano Institute for Business & Entrepreneurship provides students with a high quality, accelerated, and cost-effective business education that is linked with networks of employers for career entry, provides coaching to rising entrepreneurs, and provides pathways to additional degrees and credentials via college and university partners. Opening in the fall of 2023, the institute will be the first of its kind in the United States and will proudly serve learners that are seeking to build economic strength with the guidance of faculty and staff that care deeply about their success.

Last night at our Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce “Top 100 Awards event - I had the honor of presenting Tom Golisano with our “Lifetime Achievement Award” - which in the future will be renamed the “B Thomas Golisano Award” in his honor. Tom founded Paychex in 1971 with just $3K - and he grew that initial investment into $4B - through his leadership/hard work. Paychex today has over 14K employees/serves 670K customers. Tom created the B. Thomas Golisano Foundation at the age of 44 - and it is one of the largest private foundations in the U.S. Tom’s business success and philanthropy are legendary. He has donated over $775M to hospitals, organizations, and non profits. In September, Tom donated $360M to 82 organizations. I witnessed that event at the Golisano Institute for Business & Entrepreneurship - and it was both amazing/inspirational. Tom Golisano has also created wealth among countless employees, investors, and partners - and all of this has had a profound impact on our region’s economy and philanthropy. Tom Golisano is a one person “economic driver” - and he is “the gift that keeps on giving”. While Tom has received thanks from the organizations that he has supported - he has NEVER received a public thank you/recognition from our community - until last night. In front of a sold out Convention Center - we honored and thanked Tom Golisano for all that he has done for the Rochester region. In a community known for its generosity and philanthropy - Tom stands out as the leader. Last night’s standing ovations showed this man how much he means to Rochester - and how grateful we are to him. We often wait to thank special people - until it is too late. I am so very proud that we honored/thanked this great man last night - in front of a huge crowd of business leaders - who all have been inspired by Tom. Congratulations Tom Golisano and THANK YOU - for all that you have done - and for the countless lives/organizations who you have impacted through your generosity/kindness.
