#WEF2025 in Davos brought together business and political leaders under the theme “Collaboration in the Intelligent Age”. Participants explored how to reimagine inclusive growth, safeguard biodiversity, and deploy technology and AI responsibly, all while investing in people. U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres delivered a powerful State of the World address, emphasizing the need for collective peace and security, economy-wide climate action and the responsible use of technology and AI. The United Nations Global Compact convened several cross-sector discussions with business leaders on critical topics, including: sustainable finance and investment; CEO leadership for sustainable development; and building resilient and sustainable supply chains. I participated in panel discussions on innovation and technology for the Sustainable Development Goals, climate action, water resilience, and Africa’s growth trajectory, to name a few. I met numerous business leaders committed to driving responsible, sustainable and competitive businesses, despite the fast-changing macroeconomic, geopolitical and regulatory environment.  Some of the discussion points I heard most often during my week here were:  - Technology and AI will have a profound impact on how business is done. While the headlines cover the advances in technology, these will certainly create significant efficiencies. We must remember that technology should be deployed to bridge and not create divides. Investments in policies, energy, connectivity and devices are needed particularly in developing economies  to ensure no one is left behind. - Investments in infrastructure are critical for economic growth. - Now more than ever, business leadership and determined action are needed to address energy access, food systems, digital transformation and investments in people. - South Africa's G20 Presidency presents the opportunity for the African continent to move AFCFTA forward and mobilize investments, particularly for infrastructure and energy security. Value addition, particularly for critical minerals, is an urgent imperative. The UN Global Compact stands ready to partner with businesses and their leaders to advance these ideas and galvanize the private sector to deliver sustainable and competitive business outcomes.

  • This week in Davos, the UN Global Compact convened leaders across sectors to drive bold action on the Sustainable Development Goals #SDGs and tackle the most pressing global challenges. In this pivotal moment—the ten-year anniversary of the Global Goals and the Paris Agreement and the five-year countdown to 2030—the importance of scientific innovation, scalable solutions and collaboration to accelerate progress toward the SDGs has never been more evident. The theme of this year’s World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting 2025, "Collaboration for the Intelligent Age," underscores the necessity of collective efforts in addressing global challenges—a focus reflected in the convenings of the UN global compact this week. During today’s UN Global Compact convening, leaders at the “Procurement’s Role in Advancing the SDGs” event explored how sustainable procurement can transform global supply chains, empower SMEs and drive measurable progress. Through education, technology and ambitious target-setting, procurement leaders are reshaping industries for a more inclusive and sustainable future. These conversations remind us of the vital role the private sector plays in delivering on the SDGs and the power of partnerships and innovation to inspire actionable hope. Let’s keep the momentum going as we advance our shared commitment to the Global Goals! #WEF2025 #Davos #SustainableDevelopment #SDGs #ClimateAction #GlobalGoals
