NEW episode of The #Strategerist podcast: Ambassador Mark Green serves as President, Director, and CEO of The Wilson Center — a nonpartisan organization that provides research, analysis, and independent scholarship on global affairs. Before leading the Wilson Center, his distinguished career in public policy included key roles at USAID, the International Republican Institute, the McCain Institute, and four terms as a U.S. Representative for Wisconsin’s 8th District. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Millennium Challenge Corporation during both the Obama and Trump Administrations. Ambassador Green joined host Andrew Kaufmann and the Bush Center’s Bill McKenzie at the Forum on Leadership to discuss the mission of the Wilson Center, the positive impact of U.S. foreign aid both at home and abroad, and the importance of healthy disagreement. Critics and opponents of the Vladimir Putin regime risk loss of freedom and life in Russia, as evidenced by the examples of poisonings and assassinations involving journalist Anna Politkovskaya, Russian opposition figures Boris Nemtsov and Aleksei Navalny, and many more. Kara-Murza himself is the survivor of two near-fatal poisonings in 2015 and 2017 and still suffers from the effects of these attempts on his life. "ARIA’s provisions and directives were clear: the authorized funds were intended for important regional security programs, economic and trade programs, and democracy and human rights initiatives. [...] Instead, the State Department directed funds to entirely different purposes, including for “birthing facilities in Bangladesh,” “natural resource management in the Philippines,” and “Vietnam’s Social Health Insurance policies,” as detailed in the GAO report. We can’t combat a belligerent Beijing with birthing facilities and health insurance – worthy as those efforts may be on their own." — Igor Khrestin, Bradford M.
