About us
Generation Citizen (GC) envisions a country of young people working as active and effective citizens to collectively rebuild our American democracy. GC works to ensure that every student in the US receives an effective action civics education. We do this by directly engaging schools in action civics while simultaneously building the demand for the concept across the country. GC teaches teenagers how to take effective political action. Through an innovative in-class curriculum, students work with local leaders to fix local problems. Through this real-world experience, our teens are building an active democracy. Our innovative, action-based program will revolutionize civics education in this country. Generation Citizen is building a new generation of youth activists and leaders; a generation inspired and equipped to make change.

Today is Election Day—a reminder of the power in every single vote cast. Our “My First Vote” campaign (https://lnkd.in/eZfdxYW2) showed the journeys, hopes, and pivotal moments that led our former GC students to the polls. Today, let’s honor the strength of those stories by making our voices heard. Every vote is a step toward a future shaped by the people, for the people. As we cast our ballots, we’re not only deciding on issues and leaders, but we’re also creating a legacy of civic engagement for generations to come. Let’s make today a celebration of democracy in action. Head to the polls, bring a friend, and show what a commitment to change looks like. #RISEVote2024 #ElectionDay #MyFirstVote #Election2024

"Generation Citizen helped me understand the weight of my vote, especially as I voted for the first time this year." Josephina "Josie" Johnson, a former Generation Citizen fellow, reminds us that voting isn't just an adult duty—it’s a shared power that young people hold to shape their future. As she shares in her blog post, civic education has opened her eyes to the strength and value of a single vote. From advocating for policy changes in her state to engaging with leaders across the political spectrum, Josephina exemplifies the positive change that civic engagement can spark. At Generation Citizen, we believe in equipping young people with the tools and confidence to participate fully in democracy. Josephina’s story is a testament to the profound impact that informed, empowered youth can have. Let’s keep pushing for a future where every young person knows their power to make a difference.
