Anthro-paws: 🐾 How COVID-19 lockdowns unlocked 🔓 increased habitat suitability for species A study by Sillero et al., developed ecological niche models using GBIF-mediated occurrences of 381 native species across multiple taxa 🌱🐕 along with remote-sensing data to explore whether habitat suitability in the Iberian Peninsula increased during the 2020 and 2021 lockdowns. Overall, the models showed habitat suitability was at its highest during lockdowns, finding a clear correlation between decreased air pollution when people stayed at home and the resulting positive effects on species’ habitat quality. 🌍 🔗https://lnkd.in/dAKZ9xvX #DataUse #Resarch #Biodiversity

Free and open access to biodiversity data
About us
GBIF—the Global Biodiversity Information Facility—is an international open data infrastructure, funded by governments. It allows anyone, anywhere to access data about all types of life on Earth, shared across national boundaries via the Internet. By encouraging and helping institutions to publish data according to common standards, GBIF enables research not possible before, and informs better decisions to conserve and sustainably use the biological resources of the planet. GBIF operates through a network of nodes, coordinating the biodiversity information facilities of Participant countries and organizations, collaborating with each other and the Secretariat to share skills, experiences and technical capacity. GBIF's vision: "A world in which biodiversity information is freely and universally available for science, society and a sustainable future."

Birds of a feather🪶form breeding pairs in #Greenland together 💗 A new dataset of 13,337 breeding bird records in Greenland spanning from 1843 to 2021 has recent been shared to GBIF.org. 🐦 The dataset has been compiled from both published and unpublished sources by David Boertmann of Aarhus University and includes data from technical reports, scientific papers, personal observations and online platforms like iNaturalist and eBird. The records are classified into confirmed, probable, and possible breeding occurrence. The data compilation was funded by the Aage V. Jensen Charity Foundation and was made available for publishing through support of #DanBIF. This data will be featured in the upcoming book Birds of Greenland, due for release in 2025. 📖 Explore the dataset here: 🔗https://lnkd.in/d_g3dexC #DanBIF
