In order to discover who we are as HR professionals, it’s important to look back at where we’ve been and how deeply rooted our roles are in the history of work. We are thrilled to welcome self-proclaimed history nerd and three-time Disrupter, Katie Augsburger, SHRM-SCP of Future Work Design as an Official Disrupter, presenting her talk ‘From Personnel to Employee Experience: What the History of HR Tells Us about Our Future’ which takes us through an informative overview of the history of HR to explain how we’ve gotten to where we are today, and what it tells us about where we’re going and how we in HR can impact our roles of tomorrow. Join Katie and 9 other Disrupters featuring stories of pushing boundaries, creating change and positively disrupting the HR industry at DisruptHR Seattle, Wednesday, June 5th at the Bellevue Club. We are witnessing another period of organizational contraction, with an increasing number of "Open to Work" tags on LinkedIn. And worse still is story after story of individuals being abruptly and coldly let go from workplaces they loved and relied on. What is true is that laying someone off is deeply uncomfortable, and in that discomfort, organizations treat that moment like a transaction, prioritizing speed over care. We must remember that discomfort should not excuse us from showing compassion, thoughtfulness and living our values even and especially when times are hard. In 2020, we released a free guide for leaders who may have to make the difficult choice to conduct a layoff. The guide is as relevant today as it was during that chaotic year. I hope you find it beneficial if you find yourself in need. My sincere hope, however, is that you never have to use it, but the reality is, if you are in HR or in leadership, at some point in your career you will. If layoffs are a necessary part of capitalism, then let us approach this not merely as transactions but as opportunities to lean into our values and center support and compassion. https://lnkd.in/gmEjmYiJ

✨ Compensation Inspiration Circle Debrief ✨ What a delightful meet-up! I’m pretty sure if this consulting thing doesn’t work out Katie Augsburger, SHRM-SCP could be a standup compensation comic! The Inspiration Library (www.eitherorg.org) has been updated to cover all the topics we discussed: ✨Pay Transparency, ✨Reproductive Health Benefits, ✨Paid Sabbatical, and ✨Bereavement (adding the concept of Bereavement Light Duty)…I ADDED new patterns on: ✨Pay Ratios, ✨Pay Clarity, and ✨Potlach. I also included some critique based on our conversation of ✨Employee Wellness Programs. One overarching theme of the discussion was to focus on benefits that low wage workers can benefit from, which means shifting emphasis on programs supporting wealth creation (e.g. debt repayment) over wealth preservation (e.g. retirement, stock options). I can’t remember who shared the Employee Health Financial Toolkit resource, but thank you! https://lnkd.in/g3J7c_2e Thank you for helping us crowdsource and improve this resource for everyone!

👋 Hi friends - I need some help. 10 years ago I started sharing my card deck obsession at http://www.deckaholic.com/. A lot has changed in 10 years - two kids, started my own company, etc. And while I still use and make card decks constantly, I haven't been able to keep up with all the amazing card decks people send me from around the world. I've hired interns to help and that worked for a while. But the straw that broke the camel's back is I hired an intern to photograph a box of ~80 decks and they LOST THE BOX. 😭 What started as a delightful side project has become a bit of an albatross, so it's time for me to make a change. I'd love some honest feedback here: Do you think there is still value keeping Deckaholic alive and up to date? Do you know someone who might be interested in taking it over? Should I convert it to a more self-service platform where folks can post their decks without so much labor on my end? Have you had to hospice a beloved project before? Advice appreciated!
