In our July spotlight, we are featuring a mother/daughter team Debbie and Kylie. They volunteer for the Healthy Food Pantry at our Homestead Oaks Apartments. Debbie wrote, “Although we live in one of the richest countries in the world, it breaks our hearts that many families still experience hunger. This is why my daughter, Kylie, and I decided to volunteer our time at Foundation Communities Food Pantries. It is our hope that through this opportunity, we can help our neighbors in need by providing them not only with nutritious foods but also with a smile as we share recipe possibilities. We have had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful individuals and learning a little bit about them and their children.” Thank you Debbie and Kylie for putting your great relationship to work to serve our community!

During our Back to School Drive this year, we are hoping to raise at least $100,000 to support the students in our 16 Learning Centers. Unfortunately, we are off to a very slow start! Please consider donating at foundcom.org/btsd. You can also help by sharing our social media posts with your friends and starting your own fundrasier. In this video, parents, grandparents and students explain how their Learning Centers help them make better grades and find more success in life. We couldn't do it without the support of generous neighbors like you!

Imagine 668 bright minds arriving at after-school programs at Foundation Communities Learning Centers, eager to learn! These children have the potential to achieve great things, but they need the right tools. With your support, we can provide essential backpacks, school supplies, and technology to fuel their potential and ignite their curiosity. You can donate to our Back to School Drive today at https://foundcom.org/btsd, and even set up your own fundraiser to get your friends and family involved. You can also share our posts, like this kickoff message from the Director of our Learning Center Programs. Thank you for supporting our students!

Here is the Volunteer Spotlight for June, Financial Coach Pedro Paredes. Pedro has gone above and beyond as a volunteer in our Financial Coaching program! He became a Financial Coach after volunteering with the Tax Help program for years. This year, Pedro combined his coaching talents and tax preparation skills for our Get Ready appointments which helped self-employed community members get their income and expenses organized before getting their taxes prepared. Pedro also facilitated a financial wellness workshop as a first year coach! Pedro says, "I volunteer is because I’ve been helped in my life by individuals that have more experience than me, and I have always appreciated them saving me time and energy. I hope that in our community of Austin, I’ve been able to help them be more successful based on what others have shared with me.” Join us in thanking Pedro for his outstanding work as a cross program volunteer!

When Sharon Jarvis moved into our Spring Terrace Apartments, she was struggling with the recent deaths of her husband and son. A hurricane had also done significant damage to her home. She says it was the gardening program at Spring Terrace that helped her break out of her depression, as well as having plenty of people to talk to. She admits to being a "yacker."
