New research led by Flatiron Health in JNCI Cancer Spectrum shows patient groups historically underrepresented in oncology clinical trials are the very same patient groups more likely to be treated at community practices with limited or no access to trials. The research found, based on an analysis of over 550,000 patients across 178 community practices, that practices with low research engagement served higher proportions of patients who are Black, Latinx, without known insurance, and at the lowest socioeconomic status, while practices with high research engagement served higher proportions of patients who are White, insured, and at higher socioeconomic status. Deepening our understanding of which patient groups are facing inequitable access to trials is a key step in driving more representative oncology research. "This study debunks some of the common myths about cancer clinical research in the community, specifically that community sites can only handle a few studies at a time or that they can't do phase 1." Hear more from author of #ASCO24 research, "Characterization of cancer clinical trials in the community setting," Ivy Altomare MD in a recent interview with Journal of Clinical Pathways for her perspective on how expanding #clinicaltrials in the community setting will facilitate optimal and equitable cancer care. http://spkl.io/60444Ctya

What could #clinicalresearch teams do with more hours in their day? It’s been estimated that as much as 50% of data entry time in #clinicaltrials could be saved by using EHR to EDC connectors, which promise to remove duplicate data entry. Our latest research, published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology and presented at #ASCO24, sought to assess how EHR-to-EDC connectors like Flatiron Clinical Pipe™ can help reduce the burden of data entry and management in modern clinical trials. Hear from Ivy Altomare MD, Head of Research Oncology, and read our research in full on our website: http://spkl.io/60474CrRV
