More than 60 associates, family members, friends and pups got their hearts pumping at American Heart Association-Hawaii's 2024 Oahu Heart Walk at Kapiolani Park on Saturday. Together we raised $40,000 in support of heart health. Happy 100th anniversary AHA, and mahalo for your commitment to creating a healthier future for our community. #TeamFICOH #HIHeartWalk

Yesterday we joined a proclamation ceremony celebrating the 15th annual Pedestrian Safety Month in Hawaii! FICOH and Hawaii DOT’s Walk Wise Hawaii program have teamed up this summer to educate seniors on the importance of visibility while walking and so far, have passed out more than 2,000 safety lights and reflective bracelets at senior outreach events on Oahu. At the ceremony, we got to meet other public and private partners who are passionate about pedestrian safety, including Honolulu Police Department, Walk with a Doc, and Raising Cane’s, who brought some furry friends to highlight the importance of PET-estrian safety, too. The message: Pedestrian safety is a team effort. If you drive, choose not to drive distracted or speed, and be aware of pedestrian movements day and night. As pedestrians, dress to be seen. When crossing the street, look left, right, left again, and continue looking the entire time you’re in a crosswalk. Do not enter a crosswalk if the light indicator is already counting down; and if no crosswalk is available, cross at a corner. Let’s make August and every month #PedestrianSafetyMonth in Hawaii!

Our Community Action Team recently completed a donation drive for the Institute for Human Services (IHS), the most comprehensive human services provider focused exclusively on addressing homelessness in Hawaii. We loved seeing our lobby fill up with donations! Our associates donated toiletries, gently used clothing, pillows, towels, and bed sheets, among other essentials. Mahalo to the #IHS team for their dedication to ending and preventing homelessness.

Last week, our Tokio Marine expats Taki Anzai, Ken Kamoda, and Tatsu Fujimoto led a Japanese Cultural Class to teach us more about their home country. The session was attended by more than 100 associates in person and virtually and was filled with valuable information, including Japan’s history and culture, and the dos and don’ts of business etiquette. Thanks to their intelligence and humor, the class was both educational and fun. We appreciate the time and thought they put into their presentation and look forward to part 2!

It’s #NationalInsuranceAwarenessDay! At FICOH, we want to make insurance accessible and engaging to everyone. In early 2024, we launched an Instagram video series teaching insurance basics using two digital characters in comic-style episodes.
