In a historic moment for gymnastics, four of the five members of 2024’s Team USA — Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee and Hezly Rivera — are women of color. These phenomenal athletes are not only pushing the limits of the sport but also shattering long-standing racial barriers in a sport traditionally dominated by white women. 👏

As Adam Grant so perfectly put it: Bad bosses insist that work comes first. They reward workaholism and punish outside interests. Good bosses support balance. They encourage nights and weekends off. Great bosses expect people to put loved ones above their jobs. They forbid missing important family events for work. 🎥 Bruce Arians

Tired, but thorough. Precise, but in pain. A new study suggests women perform better overall *while* menstruating. The team from team from the University College London and the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health discovered that women experience fluctuations in mental agility throughout their menstrual cycle, with faster responses and fewer mistakes when they are on their periods. This was despite women reporting feeling worse on their periods, including lower mood and suffering physical symptoms. The researchers said “a significant proportion of females felt that their symptoms were negatively affecting their cognitive performance during menstruation on testing day, which was incongruent with their actual performance.”

Hedy Lamarr may have been a beautiful and successful Hollywood actress, but she was also an empathetic and compassionate immigrant with a deep interest in science and engineering. Fueled by those interests, she worked with others to create technology for good—and we’re glad she did. The modern-day versions of her innovation are ones we can’t imagine living without!

Did you know that a male birth control drug was found 100% effective in trials? A male contraceptive that immobilizes sperm for 2 hours prevented pregnancy in mice and resulted in no adverse side effects! Full fertility returned 24 hours later. “This is, in the male contraceptive field, totally revolutionary,” says Jochen Buck at Cornell University. This is a breakthrough for men and women alike because it’s only taken as needed and doesn’t effect a person’s hormonal balance. “We need more [birth control] options, and men need an option so that the burden of contraception is not on females anymore,” says Melanie Balbach, Cornell University.
