Along the banks of Lake Superior, Essentia Health's St. Mary's Medical Center redefines the patient experience and challenges contemporary #healthcaredesign strategies with bold, innovative, and sustainable solutions. Our design team and partners envisioned a hospital environment that is comfortable, welcoming, and efficient for patients, families, and staff. Its iconic façade pays homage to the rolling fog of the largest lake in the world and provides striking views throughout each of its 19 floors. Its public areas have the engaging warmth of hospitality spaces, and its patient-centric design drives impactful outcomes by consolidating adaptable inpatient rooms, procedure rooms, and flexibly planned outpatient spaces. At nearly a million SF and the length of 2 football fields, this monumental hospital remains a community-based hospital that puts patients and families first. https://lnkd.in/efCAe96x

Today, we proudly celebrate National Disability Independence Day, marking the signing of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA)! According to the CDC, 15% of the global population has a disability. In the US, about 25% of the population faces these challenges. Our understanding of what is or who has a disability has evolved over the last three decades, and barriers to vital healthcare persist. Studies highlight that due to limited design solutions that go beyond ADA requirements, people with disabilities are often excluded from comprehensive preventive care and community health promotion efforts. To address these issues, architects and designers increasingly embrace Inclusive Design principles to mitigate everyday challenges. Our Design Research team works with clients to implement solutions that lead to a more equitable experience for everyone. Today on the blog, the team offers key insights into their work for building owners, healthcare providers, and other design professionals to consider when designing their next project. Check it out! https://lnkd.in/e5tigrHu #NationalDisabilityIndependenceDay #ADA #InclusiveDesign #EquityInDesign #AccessibilityMatters

The local government in Fayetteville, NC, is championing a new event and performing arts center to attract top-billing entertainment and generate revenue and exciting entertainment for the city. The existing Crown Complex venues, built between 1967 and 1997, need modernization. EwingCole worked alongside the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners and the community to design the state-of-the-art 137,000 SF facility. This multi-million-dollar investment will reflect the community’s values and serve as an economic catalyst for the region. Adhering to guiding principles and the theme “Out of Many, One,” the design embraces the area’s natural aesthetic, ensuring a cohesive and inclusive community space. Key features include: 🔷 A 3,000-seat main event center with VIP and general admission balconies 🔷 A multi-use banquet room with smaller meeting rooms 🔷 A VIP Lounge, feature bars, and venue food service spaces 🔷 A roof terrace offering panoramic views of the downtown area Designed to host concerts, comedy shows, Broadway productions, local performances, banquets, and conventions, the center includes advanced performance upgrades like flexible stage configurations, enhanced rigging capabilities, diverse seating options, backstage support spaces, and improved amenities. We are excited to contribute to a project that will be a unique addition to Cumberland County! https://lnkd.in/gX8vWfpK #EwingCole #CrownEventCenter #CommunityDevelopment #PerformingArts #FayettevilleNC
