#BREAKING: Supreme Court Rules Idaho Hospitals Must Provide Life-Saving Abortion Care, But Declines to Rule on Merits of #EMTALA Case The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) is a nearly four-decade-federal law guaranteeing all patients the right to access life-saving emergency medical care, including an abortion. While EMTALA protections remain in place for now, the ruling keeps the door open for patients to be denied emergency services in the future. We must ensure that medical professionals can provide emergency and life-saving care nationwide, and that pregnant people can access it - when and where they need it. #BansOffOurBodies

NEW: HHS-Labor Approps subcommittee released an irresponsible proposal to eliminate the Title X program. Title X serves as a lifeline for affordable STI care + birth control for millions of people with low-incomes nationwide. In a post-Dobbs landscape, we must protect and ensure access to birth control and family planning. We call on Congress to preserve access to essential health care so that everyone, regardless of their zip code or economic status, can get equitable, affordable, and patient-centered sexual and reproductive health services. #SaveTitleX

Today marks two years since the Supreme Court overturned #Roe. The impact of the decision continues to be devastating and widespread with over 21 states enacting abortion bans and severe restrictions – threatening the health and well-being of millions, and disproportionately harming Black, Indigenous and People of Color, LGBTQIA+ folks, young people, immigrants, and people living in rural areas. And now, they are coming for #birthcontrol. Eight states have introduced bills to restrict access. We were proud to join Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, and partners TEACH, Reproductive Freedom for All, ACLU of Northern California, and Planned Parenthood Northern California #FutureofAbortionCouncil to commemorate this stark anniversary, and call for the Right to Contraception Act to be brought up for a vote in the House. #BansOffOurBodies #HandsOffMyBC

This week, Essential Access was proud to stand with Mayor London Breed and other Bay Area champions in support of the Reproductive Freedom Act, a measure put forth by Mayor Breed. If approved by San Francisco voters this November, the ballot measure will strengthen city and county policies related to reproductive health access, justice, and freedom. “As states across the country continue to enact callous and cruel abortion bans and restrictions, in California and San Francisco, we have an opportunity and responsibility, to use every tool possible to protect and expand access to essential health services. This measure builds on San Francisco’s long history of taking bold action in support of equity and justice and provides a model for other jurisdictions to adopt and adapt. We urge San Franciscans to support reproductive health and rights and thank Mayor Breed for her leadership,” said Amy Moy, Co-CEO, Essential Access Health. Today, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously blocked the challenge to revoke the FDA’s approval of mifepristone and asserted that the anti-abortion plaintiffs lacked standing to sue. This case was outrageous and baseless from the start. Mifepristone has a proven track record of being safe and effective for over twenty years and medication abortion accounted for nearly two-thirds of all abortions in the U.S. last year. This isn’t the end. Policymakers on the state and federal levels need to push for protective policies and ensure that everyone can get the essential and time-sensitive health care they need, when they need it, without barriers. https://lnkd.in/daD546wj
