About us
In the past, many people with disabilities did not have the same freedom of access to information as the rest of society, but now, technology has the potential to eliminate this disparity. Equal Entry shares news and information about these technologies, highlighting innovations that strive to make information accessible to all audiences. It amazes us how frequently these kinds of innovations are overlooked. Our mission is to encourage more equitable access to information by raising awareness about the work in this field.

After a digital accessibility lawsuit begins, a defendant can ask the judge to dismiss the complaint as "moot." This means all of the violations alleged in the plaintiff’s complaint are already fixed and are not likely to recur. However, this argument often doesn't work in digital accessibility. Read or listen to this A11y Insights to learn about mootness and a related digital accessibility lawsuit. https://buff.ly/3LPHvvm #Accessibility #Legal Image: Illustration of Thomas and Ken at a desk with A11y Insights. Video games are a pastime and an escape for many. They allow people to explore and experience complex, fantastical worlds on their own terms. Players scan their environment, make split-second decisions, depending on what’s around them, and explore the world. However, many video games are inaccessible to blind and low vision players. Many blind players want to play mainstream games. Vishnu Nair shares his PhD work on how to make games accessible to blind and low vision players. Read the recap or watch the captioned video. A person who is legally blind has filed a class action lawsuit in California against the Hyatt. The plaintiff alleges the hotel’s website puts up barriers for people who use screen readers. It prevents the plaintiff from enjoying full, equal access to the company’s products and services. This issue of A11y Insights dives into the case and its uniqueness. It also explains California's Unruh Civil Rights Act and includes a demo of the website. Some food establishments charge extra for certain ingredients. For example, a coffee shop has a basic coffee drink for $5. If you substitute with alternative milk like oat or almond milk, it's an extra $0.70. But what if someone has a milk allergy and has no choice but to swap? Is that violating the ADA?
