As part of ESG’s mission of Improving Lives and to raise awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are proud to share Heather Stalvey’s deeply moving story. Heather, Vice President of Human Resources and Administration at ESG, faced an intensely personal challenge in 2012 when both her mother and maternal grandmother were diagnosed with breast cancer just weeks apart. "It was a shock to the family," Heather recalls. Juggling a demanding career, raising young children, and supporting her family through their battles was no small feat, but Heather’s strength never wavered as she stood by the most important women in her life. Her grandmother lived eight meaningful years after her diagnosis, passing away from unrelated causes, and her mother is now 70 and cancer-free. Now considered high risk, Heather is a passionate advocate for early detection: "Encourage the women in your life to do self-checks and get mammograms as soon as they are recommended. I now get digital, 4D mammograms and ultrasounds. Don’t hesitate to advocate for yourself and others." Heather’s journey reminds us of the life-saving power of early detection and unwavering support. As part of ESG’s mission of Improving Lives and to raise awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are proud to share Ella McElrath’s inspiring journey. Diagnosed with breast cancer at just 34 years old on February 23, 2014, Ella faced an uphill battle while also caring for her disabled daughters, who were undergoing major surgeries at the same time. Despite the weight of her diagnosis, Ella chose to keep her illness private, even from her daughters, until after her treatments were complete. A teacher at the time, Ella’s greatest sources of strength were her family and coworkers. They lifted her up, reminding her that breast cancer didn’t change the incredible person she is. Ella also became a fierce advocate for awareness and vigilance, understanding firsthand that breast cancer can strike anyone, at any age. “I thought ‘I’m too young!’ but I wasn’t,” Ella shares. “I wouldn’t have even had a mammogram if it weren’t for my doctor insisting and telling me she would pay for it if I didn’t have cancer. I could give you a million reasons why everyone needs to be more aware, but these were my reasons. I almost wasn’t here to share my life with my daughters.” Ella’s story reminds us all of the importance of early detection, listening to our bodies, and being strong in the face of life’s greatest challenges. Mark is the Engineering Pit Crew Manager at Heil Environmental and has been with the company for almost ten years. “I enjoy developing new products and working with a group of very creative people. ESG team members were singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame!” as they recently enjoyed watching the Chattanooga Lookouts and hanging with employees and their families. ESG Team members took a break from the office for pickleball clinics. Whether they were pickleball novices or self-proclaimed professionals, they were taught the rules and acquired the skills to play this popular game. They had a friendly competition amongst each other and got to know one another a little better through teamwork and camaraderie. Team members from the Chattanooga office took some time out of their day to give back to the community by volunteering at the Chatt Foundation. The Chatt Foundation helps those experiencing homelessness in the community by providing necessities and care. Our team took some of the burden off of the Chatt Foundation employees by moving old washing machines to make room for new ones. What would’ve been a tough one-person job was made simple with the help of our generous ESG Cares team. #Community #TeamESG #ImprovingLives
