This World Calligraphy Day 🖋️, we invite you to read between the painted lines. Nearly 20 years ago, our Chairman and CEO Dominic Ng reached out to renowned Chinese artist Xu Bing—featured in this clip from the East West Bank Foundation documentary “The Bridge,” now streaming—to create a work based on “The Times They Are A-Changin’” by Bob Dylan. What resulted was the 2006 eponymous piece that, at a glance, looks like Chinese calligraphy, but upon closer inspection is actually Latin alphabet letters cleverly assembled from the lyrics of that iconic folk song. We can’t think of a greater embodiment of “East meets West” than this! Drop by our Pasadena headquarters to get a closer look! #WorldCalligraphyDay #XuBing #TheBridge #EastWestBankFoundation

Did you know? During the 1930s-1940s, the free port of Shanghai became an unexpected safe haven for Jews attempting to flee the antisemitic policies and identity-based violence in Nazi-controlled Europe. The Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum has announced a new special exhibition commemorating this rarely told part of history: "Hidden History: Recounting the Shanghai Jewish Story." This exhibition opened at the Holocaust Museum LA and was made possible by the East West Bank Foundation. It opened in Dallas today. We prioritize our employees' well-being, dedicated to creating a positive work environment that promotes work-life balance. Our commitment is reflected through a range of corporate initiatives this summer, including team-building outings, wellness workshops, and comprehensive health check-ups. These efforts ensure that our associates can recharge and engage in enriching experiences. Our associates on the East Coast enjoyed some good ol’ bowling, laser tag and go-kart racing to allow their inner children to play. Our associates in Atlanta, Boston and New York—led by Dennis Chuang, SVP-Consumer & Business Banking Regional Director Eastern Regional Admin—got a head start on Wellness Month (August) by joining forces for these team-building events to help us reach further (and bowl more strikes) together. “I am proud to be part of East West Bank's commitment to work-life balance and wellness,” said Dennis. “Our focus on team bonding and holistic wellbeing helps create an environment where associates thrive both personally and professionally.” #EWBLife #EastWestBank #EWBMoments #WellnessMonth #NationalWellnessMonth

With forthcoming theatrical releases like the drama film “Sing Sing” (starring Academy Award nominee Colman Domingo) and the psychological horror “The Front Room” (starring Brandy), #EWBiz A24 has continued to deliver diverse and impactful stories to audiences worldwide. Called the “cool kid” of Hollywood studios, A24 has well earned its reputation for producing films that have both expanded BIPOC representation on the big screen and garnered historic wins at film and television award ceremonies. Here’s more evidence of that: “Everything Everywhere All at Once” (2022): The Best Picture-winning film garnered seven Oscars, with Michelle Yeoh making history as the first actress of Asian descent to win Best Actress. “Beef” (2023): Ali Wong and Steven Yeun made history at the 81st Golden Globe Awards in the leading acting categories for their roles in this beloved Netflix thriller. The series won a Golden Globe for Best Limited TV Series, becoming the first show created by and starring Asian Americans to win in its category. “Moonlight” (2017): Centered on an LGTBQ+ Black character, this film about identity and acceptance won Best Picture at the 89th Academy Awards and became the lowest-budget film to ever win an Oscar. Barry Jenkins was the first Black writer-director to be nominated for Best Picture, Director, and Screenplay. "Ramy" (2019): Starring Ramy Youssef, who won a Golden Globe and Peabody for his performance, the Hulu comedy series offers an insightful glimpse into the life of a Muslim American family. What’s your favorite A24 film? Leave a comment below. 👇 📷 (from left): Jonathan Wang, Ke Huy Quan, Daniel Scheinert, Dan Kwan, Stephanie Hsu, Theresa Steele Page, Timothy Headington and Harry Shum Jr. attend the premiere of A24's "Everything Everywhere All At Once" at The Theatre at Ace Hotel on March 23, 2022 in Los Angeles, California.
