This week’s imagery spotlight shines on the historic Fort McHenry in Baltimore, MD! 🏰 Originally built during the American Revolution as Fort Whetstone, this star-shaped fort marked the entrance to Baltimore Harbor and stood as a critical defense point for the young United States. Though it went untested in that conflict, its strategic importance led to a major upgrade in 1798. Rebuilt with brick and stone, it was renamed Fort McHenry in honor of James McHenry, Secretary of War under George Washington and a Baltimore native. This week’s image of the week takes us to the historic Grove of Remembrance in Baltimore’s Druid Hill Park. 🌳 Planted by the War Mothers of WWI on October 8, 1919, this grove features 48 oak trees representing each state in the union at the time, plus additional trees honoring Baltimore, U.S. allies, and President Woodrow Wilson.
