  • 🎉 Happy 108th Birthday to the Marine Corps Reserve! 🎉 From all of us at DEOMI, we wish the Marine Corps Reserve a very Happy Birthday! Established in 1916, the USMC Reserve was formed in response to the increased demand for additional warfighters prior to World War I. • Women’s Equality Day celebrates the passage of the 19th Amendment and the brave men and women who fought for universal suffrage. The Department honors their efforts and the progress that has been made through its commitment to provide an inclusive atmosphere where individuals have equal opportunities to reach their full potential. This year’s #WomensEqualityDay tagline, “One Piece at a Time,” reflects on the lives and contributions of remarkable individuals who played pivotal roles in women gaining the right to vote. Among them are Frederick Douglass, Wilhelmina Kekelaokalaninui Widemann Dowsett, Harry T. Burn, Zitkála-Sá (also known as Gertrude Simmons Bonnin), Adelina Otero-Warren, and Tye Leung Schulze. Their collective efforts paved the way for gender equality beyond suffrage. To learn more about these incredible individuals and Women's Equality Day, visit our website, at www.deomi.mil. Together we can continue to build a more equitable future for all, one piece at a time.

  • 🤝 Reconnecting with Our Legacy Partners 🤝 Yesterday, DEOMI's senior leadership met with members from The 1971 DEOMI Foundation, Inc., to discuss what future opportunities may look like as a result of rekindling the partnership between their two organizations. The DEOMI Foundation, Inc., is a non-profit organization that was originally formed in 1994 with the primary mission of supporting institutional functions and activities. The foundation was inactivated in 2004, but reactivated in 2011under new leadership. Foundation President Dr. Richard O. Hope (the institute's first Director of Research), led the foundation's support activities until his passing on December 1, 2023, at the age of eighty-four. R.I.P. Dr. Hope. The foundation is now led by acting President Ronald "Ron" Joe, former DEOMI Commandant, and Vice President Eugene "Godfather of DEOMI" Johnson (one of the institute’s founding faculty members). Assisting them are the foundation's Director Robert Watts (also a former DEOMI Commandant), Director Robert Gregg, Treasurer Jim Lambright, and Secretary Kelly Thayer. Together, they are determined to carry on the foundation's mission to support DEOMI in any way they can. To all current and former members of The 1971 DEOMI Foundation, we thank you for your support and dedication to our mission! 🙏 ✋ Would you like to reconnect with or become a member of The 1971 DEOMI Foundation, please contact our Chief of Public Affairs, at: 📧 [email protected]. #DEOMI_CenterOfExcellence #DEOMIFoundation #DEOMIAlumniAssociation

  • Is there anything more fulfilling than helping young minds thrive? Today, students from our Equal Opportunity Advisor Reserve Component Course, Class 24-2, made a significant impact by donating over a hundred items to the non-profit organization Genesis House, Inc. These donations included a wide range of school supplies such as backpacks, markers, and notebooks, as well as essential cleaning supplies and comfort items like pillows. “Many of us are parents, and with school just starting back, we knew how important these items would be,” shared one of our #EOARCC24_2 students. Additionally, most of the nearly 90 students in this course are Citizen Soldiers - Reservists and National Guardsmen - who are deeply committed to community support activities. Their passion for giving back was truly evident today! We are incredibly proud of these students! Their generosity will undoubtedly make a significant difference in the lives of many. #DEOMI_CenterOfExcellence #CommunityOutreach #DonationDrive #GenesisHouse
