What is Daniel's Law and what does it mean for you as a public official in New Jersey? ⠀ Daniel's Law, named in honor of Daniel Anderl, the late son of U.S. District Judge Esther Salas, provides crucial protections for high-profile individuals such as judges, prosecutors, and law enforcement officers, who we will refer to as "covered individuals" in the rest of this post. The law aims to safeguard your personal information from being publicly accessible, thereby reducing the risk of targeted attacks and harassment against you or the loved ones who live in your home. ⠀ Some key points are that Daniel's Law restricts the publication of your home addresses, contact details, and other identifying information on government websites and public records. By limiting access to sensitive information, the law helps protect you from potential threats. ✋🏼 ⠀ How You Can Protect Yourself under Daniel's Law: ⠀ 1. Submit a Request for Redaction -i f you're a covered individual under Daniel's Law, you can request that your personal information be redacted from public records. Visit the Daniel's Law website to learn more and submit your request. A state-appointed or county-appointed redactor will remove your residence information. ⠀ 2. Regularly Monitor Your Information - keep an eye on additional places where your personal details appear online. If you find your information exposed, take steps to have it removed or redacted. ⠀ 3. Use Privacy Services - consider utilizing additional privacy protection services that specialize in removing personal information from data broker sites and other online sources. While Daniel's Law does allow you to request data deletion from all online sources, New Jersey authorities only provide redaction resources for your residential information on government websites or public records. This means you will either need to request data deletion from each data broker site and online source individually or utilize additional data deletion services to provide monitoring and deletion protections. ⠀ 4. Stay Informed - keep up to date with changes in privacy laws and best practices for protecting your personal information. ⠀ Daniel's Law is a significant step forward in ensuring the safety and privacy of those in high-risk positions. By understanding and utilizing these protections, you can help safeguard yourself and the loved ones living under your roof. Removing your executive and employee data from the internet reduces harassment, fraud, and social engineering-based cyberattacks. Many companies promise these data-removal services. How can you tell if these services are credible and effective? ⠀ Here are five critical items to look for: ⠀ 1️⃣ Proven track record - years of experience with positive reviews. 2️⃣ Core focus on data removal - both automated and manual processes are essential. 3️⃣ Transparency - clear privacy policies and SOC2 compliance. 4️⃣ Effective reach - ability to remove data from major data brokers, covering 95% of discoverable PII. 5️⃣ Regular reporting - at least quarterly updates on data removal progress. ⠀ What to watch out for from vendors? Some vendors tout expansive coverage but double-count by including subsidiaries and other small, obscure sources. ⠀ Other vendors will collect the data required to effectively find and remove it only to sell it, and some vendors are 100% automated, meaning they cannot remove data from the largest, most risky brokers. ⠀ Your goal is to reduce your overall human threat surface, and an effective, reputable service will help you do just that. ⠀ #DataRemoval #DataProtection #OnlineSafety #DataPrivacy

Employee Data Protection - it is more than just privacy. ⠀ The recent Nissan North America ransomware attack serves as a stark reminder of the urgency of protecting employee data. The attackers not only locked down systems but also stole the personal information of over 53,000 employees. ⠀ In the aftermath of the attack, Nissan provided ID protection and fraud monitoring services, reset many passwords, and enhanced its endpoint security. The employees hopefully reset their email and social media passwords and, if compromised, cancel their credit cards. ⠀ It's important for companies to recognize that the aftermath of a cyberattack, like the one at Nissan, necessitates a new phase of protecting sensitive employee data, not just customer data. ⠀ First, properly storing and encrypting company data protects it when attacks occur, and companies avoid the costs and bad press associated with the loss. ⠀ Second, and not as obvious but equally important, companies can use data removal services to eliminate employee data found all over the open internet that is commonly used for social engineering-based attacks. ⠀ To learn more about how data removal services work, please visit 👉🏼 joindeleteme.com/business#DataPrivacy #CyberSecurity #EmployeeProtection #DeleteMe #DataBreach

Business executives with controversial or vocal presences on the internet may put their company or employees in the firing line for politically motivated attacks, particularly during times of heightened tension. ⠀ This can ring especially true if employees' personally identifiable information (PII), including home addresses and phone numbers, can be found on data brokers and other public websites. ⠀ Executives should be aware of and understand how their digital presence and exposed PII could put their company and workers at risk, and what measures they can take to clean up their online footprint. ⠀ Comprehensive data removal and decreased social media activity or making accounts private/secured can help ensure fewer business, and personal, disruptions. ⠀ Visit 🌐 joindeleteme.com/business to learn more about how PII removal can help protect your company. ⠀ #PII #PersonalInformation #ExecutiveVoices #CompanyInformation

Despite numerous data privacy laws taking effect this year, many fail to provide adequate protection to keep businesses' and employees' data secure. State-level regulations often include loopholes and lack stringent enforcement, leaving companies vulnerable to data misuse and breaches. 🔒 ⠀ Here’s how you can safeguard your business in this challenging landscape: ⠀ ➡ Implement comprehensive data security measures - This goes for employees' data as well as that of your clients. It includes encrypting data, conducting regular security audits, and employing multi-factor authentication to protect sensitive information. ⠀ ➡ Educate your team - Ensure that your employees are trained on data privacy and security best practices and avoiding phishing attacks. Regular training sessions will help them stay updated on the latest threats. ⠀ ➡ Stay informed - Keep up with the latest developments in data privacy laws and adjust your practices accordingly. Knowledge is your first line of defense against data breaches and privacy issues. ⠀ Taking these proactive steps can help your business maintain a high standard of data privacy and security, even when regulations are lacking. ⠀ #DataPrivacy #CyberSecurity #BusinessSecurity #DataProtection #PrivacyMatters

Did you know students are often victims of identity theft? Recently over 1 million NYC students had their info leaked. Clearly, more safeguards are necessary. ⠀ Why are kids getting targeted? Children’s data is highly valuable to identity thieves because: ⠀ 1️⃣ They have clean credit histories. 2️⃣ Identity theft can go unnoticed for years. 3️⃣ Thieves can create new identities with minimal risk of detection. ⠀ What can schools and universities do better? ⠀ - Implement Stronger Cybersecurity Measures: Regularly update and patch systems to protect against vulnerabilities. - Educate Staff and Students: Conduct training on recognizing phishing attempts and safe online practices. - Limit Data Collection: Only collect and store essential student information. - Encrypt Sensitive Data: Ensure all sensitive data is encrypted both in transit and at rest. - Conduct Regular Audits: Perform frequent security audits to identify and address potential threats. ⠀ By taking these steps, educational institutions can significantly reduce the risk of data breaches and protect their students from becoming victims of identity theft. ⠀ #DataPrivacy #Cybersecurity #StudentSafety #IdentityTheft #ProtectOurKids #EducationSecurity
