We are thrilled to share highlights from our recent Healthcare Rebel Alliance interview with Garrison Bliss, widely recognized as the godfather of Direct Primary Care (DPC). Dr. Bliss's journey from creating the first DPC practice in 1997 to leading a movement of thousands is truly inspiring. 🚀 Here are 5 key insights from the interview: 1️⃣ Patient-Centered Care: "Healthcare should never be driven by money, fame, or ego. Our care should be tailored exclusively to the needs of our patients." 2️⃣ Transformative Model: DPC has consistently improved lives of both patients and doctors, reducing healthcare costs by 15-50%. 3️⃣ Culture Creation: DPC is about designing a healthcare model that prioritizes doctor-patient relationships and autonomy. 4️⃣ Future of Primary Care: DPC could make primary care a popular option for medical students, potentially balancing the workforce to 50% primary care / 50% specialty care. 5️⃣ Innovation: The DPC movement is attracting vendors and technologies that further enhance accessibility and quality of care. Dr. Bliss's vision aligns perfectly with what we're building at Decent. As he told our founder and CEO, Nick Soman, "I've been waiting for someone to come and do what Decent is doing." Very good dancer and Decent CEO 🏴☠️

Flying to Minneapolis for the TPAC conference, and I am far too excited considering how early I woke up. It’s got me thinking about how we choose partners at Decent, and the power of caring painfully. TPAC is one of Decent’s underwriters. They take “stop loss” risk, standing behind our plans so employers and members never have to pay more than they expect. Every self-funded plan has stop loss. So what makes TPAC different? In their words, “We’re changing the way healthcare is financed, disclosed, and delivered.” Every single person I’ve met at TPAC cares painfully about changing healthcare for the better. I won’t personally start a company to solve a problem unless thinking hard about the problem can make me cry. The lack of affordable healthcare in the US kicks me in the gut every day - it’s a mark of shame on the best country in the world, and we (America and Decent) haven’t fixed it yet. If you want to help us try, I don’t care if you cry, but you need to care enough that it hurts sometimes. If you don’t, building something from nothing will be too hard. Caring painfully about work isn’t for everyone. I don’t even know if I recommend it. It actually hurts. It can feel awkward, scary, and unbalanced. You can try your best and still fail. But you will never, ever wonder if the fight is worth your time. TPAC has built a huge and successful business, and they could have stopped fighting for change. But they didn’t, because they are fighting for something bigger than money and bigger than themselves. It’s powerful. Magnetic. And it’s getting me on this plane with a smile.

"It takes grit and an uncompromising belief in doing things the right way to set the foundation for a great health plan.” 👊 This week for Decent’s Healthcare Rebel Alliance series I interviewed Thomas Tacheny, a broker innovator in Oklahoma who just helped one of his clients save 52% vs. their renewal with richer coverage on a Decent plan. Thomas is a fierce advocate for BUCA alternatives include reference based pricing, and he shares my soft spot for the “truly indignant personalities among us”, among them David Contorno (get well my friend!) and Nurse Deb Ault. Read his full interview on our blog, link in comments.

Decent is hiring a Director of Product, reporting to our amazing VP of Product Sandy Dedo. This is a critical hire because we are a Product-led company: we will win by delivering a transformative experience to millions around our shared conviction that your health plan doesn't have to suck. Product at Decent is a service organization that exists to empower, unblock, and delight the various stakeholders we serve, including the doctors and nurses practicing direct primary care, our team, and the employers, employees and families suffering from the rising costs of healthcare in America. You can see more about the job here: https://lnkd.in/eCXzHH79 We are well funded and growing quickly, but this is a terrible company to work at unless you are stubborn, optimistic, ambitious, and sincere. We are remote first and we don't care where you live, so long as it's in the U.S. so you can be on our plan. You should have 10+ years of product and people management experience, including with health plans and healthcare. And you should be ready to work hard and smart and do your best to change the world. We are big on humanity, automation, and AI. If this excites you more than it scares you, please email [email protected]. Like always, you get $2,000 and two bottles of whiskey if we hire someone you refer. Know someone who might be into it? Please tag them and share this post.

I loved connecting with my friend Nancy Giacolone yesterday on her podcast Recipe For Success. Check out this clip: I believe every team that wants the best health benefits should work with an advisor or broker, and Decent is on a mission to find the ones like Nancy who understand the value of Direct Primary Care. We also talked about Decent's plan, our origin stories, and the value of writing a user guide to help people deal with you (mine lives at nicksoman.com!) You can see the whole episode here: https://lnkd.in/ghFfVq6P?
