According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, the U.S. faces a shortage of 7 million affordable homes and rentals. And the project team behind Timberview VIII, an eight-story, affordable housing development, believes our industry can help change that number by introducing a sustainable and innovative material option – mass timber. Next week, attendees of the International Mass Timber Conference in Portland will get a firsthand look at this milestone project; but you can check it out right now by clicking our feature short film, “The Good Project.” And be sure to check out our last video where DCI Principal, Shirley Chalupa, PE, SE, walked us through the engineering decisions behind Timberview VIII, along with our project partners’ channels for their individual takes on this amazing project. https://lnkd.in/gnmQachX The Timberview VIII Project Team: Owner - Curtis Rystadt Structural Engineers - DCI Engineers Architect - Access Architecture General Contractor - Truebeck Construction Mass Timber Installer - Carpentry Plus, Inc. Last week was NAIOP Washington State’s annual Night of the Stars dinner, which celebrates accomplishments in building development in the region. The Night of the Stars judges voted Northlake Commons Best Office Development of the Year! The LEED Platinum Certified Core and Shell is supported by mass timber framing, which, according to a Life Cycle Assessment conducted on the building, avoided producing 2,500 metric tons of CO2e that would have been produced with a concrete structure. We at DCI are honored and proud to share this win with the amazing Architect Weber Thompson and General Contractor Swinerton, both of whom helped create this remarkable, sustainable life-science office building next to Seattle’s Lake Union.
