  • We love to see our staff grow their careers, just like Rosalyn did this year when she became a sleep technologist! Rosalyn took the leap and participated in the Accredited Sleep Technologists Education Program (A-STEP) at Dayton Children’s, a program that offers a blend of classroom learning and hands-on instruction to learn all the skills and knowledge you need to be a sleep technologist, also known as a polysomnographic technologist . Grateful that she participated, Rosalyn shared, “I transitioned from being a team lead in the environmental services department to becoming a registered polysomnographic technologist, thanks to A-STEP. I completed clinical hours, modules, and lots of studying to successfully pass the exam, and now I’m proud to be part of the sleep medicine team!” In partnership with our sleep medicine physicians, Rosalyn uses a variety of tools to perform sleep studies, evaluate sleep patterns, and treat sleep disorders in kids such as insomnia, narcolepsy, sleep apnea and more. Way to go, Rosalyn! 🎉 🌟 Let your career take flight at Dayton Children's! • Quinn is an athlete through and through, playing football, hockey and more! But when Quinn took a hit in his varsity football game, it changed all his plans for the next year. He broke his tibia and fibula, the bones in his lower right leg. This was a serious injury that required 3 surgeries and physical therapy. Dr. Nicholas Gajewski, pediatric orthopedic surgeon at Dayton Children’s was there every step of the way, from performing all 3 surgeries to offering never ending support and encouragement to Quinn. Quinn’s injuries also took a mental toll on him. His mom shared, “When your child identifies as an athlete and can no longer play, they can feel lost.” But Quinn continued to persevere and worked hard throughout his recovery in physical therapy. After a year of surgeries and therapy, Quinn made a return to sports just in time for his final hockey season as a Senior! Way to go, Quinn! 👏 🩻 From injuries on the playground to the football field, many kids will have a broken bone at some point during childhood. • Today is a day worthy of a big celebration! Help us celebrate Awo, a long time patient at Dayton Children's who is now cured of sickle cell disease! ❤️🎉 Awo spent her first 22 years managing sickle cell disease, a lifelong genetic disease that affects the red blood cells. That meant dealing with pain crises and hospital visits, and the impact on her schoolwork, social life and mental health. In 2023, that all changed. Today, Awo is cured of sickle cell disease! Awo and her family decided on a bone marrow transplant through the cellular therapy program - a partnership between Dayton Children's and Nationwide Children's Hospital. This one program, two campus approach allows Dayton-area families to stay close to home for most of their care, while receiving expert transplant care from Nationwide Children’s, one of the top ten children’s cancer hospitals in the country. Nurse coordinators and providers on both teams support families every step of the way. The journey was not easy, but with great support from her family and care teams, Awo is now looking forward. In the fall, she'll be going to law school! In honor of World Sickle Cell day, learn more about this and read Awo's full story today! ⬇️ #DaytonChildrensHospital #DaytonChildrens #AboveAndBeyond4Kids #sicklecell #worldsicklecellday
