In Data Governance, Good Policies aren't enough. Our Senior Data Lead, Tracey Li, has written a really insightful article about the challenge of moving from policy to action in data governance. She's raising three key areas of action to realize policies: 🔸 Creating context-specific policies 🔸 Focusing on training and capacity development  🔸 Supporting knowledge sharing and peer exchange Dive deeper into this topic ⬇

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting Carolyne Faith, CHW Engagement Manager at the Community Health Impact Coalition, at our #Zanzibar office. While Carolyne was in town for the Tanzania Health Summit, we used the opportunity to introduce her to a group of dedicated community health workers from the Jamii ni Afya Program. These community health workers provide essential maternal, newborn, and child health services across Zanzibar. Many of them are among the first 60 participants to complete the Community Health Impact Coalition's online advocacy training for CHWs, which is now being tested in Swahili. We love seeing this initiative arming Zanzibar's community health workforce to advocate for improved community health! ✊🏾

There is broad agreement that community health workers deserve fair compensation for their work. But the question remains: how can this be done efficiently and effectively? We are so grateful for the recognition of our work with Medic on exploring how digital payments can improve how community health workers are compensated for their important contributions to improving the health of the communities they serve. More to come on this soon 👀

What a week at the Tanzania Health Summit! 🌍 This week, we had the incredible opportunity to engage with health leaders and changemakers at the annual gathering, the Tanzania Health Summit 🎉 🔹 We hosted two insightful panel discussions that explored digital health solutions and innovative approaches to healthcare delivery. We were excited to be able to fill the rooms and these conversations sparked really meaningful dialogue. 🔹 Our booth was a hub of activity! It was great to connect with Ministers of Health, partners and others passionate about driving positive change in health. 🔹 The Digital Health Leaders Connect event, co-hosted between D-tree and the Ministry of Health Zanzibar, the Zanzibar Presidential Delivery Bureau and the E-Government Authority of Zanzibar, brought the digital health community in #Tanzania closer and sparked informal and insightful dialogue. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at the booth and contributed to the discussions. Together, we are shaping the future of health in Tanzania and the region. More to come about our take aways!

🌍 Digital Health Leaders Connect at Tanzania Health Summit 🌍 This year's Tanzania Health Summit, hosted in Zanzibar, has brought together the brightest minds in health from across Tanzania for three days of rich discussions. As we step into Day 3, the summit has showcased a strong commitment from leaders towards improving quality and equitable care for all Tanzanians. As someone working in digital health here in Zanzibar, it's incredibly exciting to hear the government (and other stakeholders) emphasizing critical areas such as an intentional and holistic ecosystem approach, adherence to global best practices, people-first approaches, data privacy, ethics, and security, interoperability and sustainability in digital health systems, responsible implementation of digital health, and the use of evidence-based innovations to drive impact. On the ground, we're witnessing the Zanzibar government making real efforts to address fragmentation in the digital health ecosystem. It’s not just rhetoric—it's happening. Yesterday, D-tree had the pleasure of co-hosting Digital Health Leaders Connect alongside the Ministry of Health Zanzibar, the Zanzibar Presidential Delivery Bureau (PDB), and the E-Government Authority of Zanzibar (eGAZ). This invitation-only event gathered key stakeholders from regulation, funding, and implementation in digital health in Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania. After two long days of conference panels and plenaries, this more informal gathering reminded us of the power and value of human connection. As Dr. Felix Sukums from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) said in a panel, "We are talking about making our digital systems interoperable, but it's equally important that the people working in digital health are interoperable." Yesterday's event helped us take steps in that direction—facilitating connections, sparking dialogue, and bringing us closer together as a community. And this is just the beginning—we're already planning the next Digital Health Leaders Connect in Dar es Salaam during MUHAS Digital Health and Innovation Week in November (cc Josephine Sundqvist, PhD). Stay tuned! Thank you to co-hosts Honourable PS MOH Zanzibar Dr Mngereza Mzee Miraji, DPS Dr Salim SLIM (DrPH,MPH,MSc, BSc -Hons), the DG of eGAZ Said Seif Said, and Head of Technology at PDB John Mahundi. Thank you to the many digital health leaders who joined us. Together, we are shaping the future of digital health in Tanzania, breaking the cycle of fragmentation in the digital health ecosystem and paving the way for a more integrated, sustainable approach. 🚀 #DigitalHealth #THS #Zanzibar #Tanzania #DigitalHealthLeadersConnect #DTree Gloria Kahamba, MPH Eden Mathew Giulia Besana Felix Sukums Makunda Kassongo Hellen W.
