We're thinking back to the Community Workshop on Preference Signals that we held in June in New York City. The conversations we had were the most focused and comprehensive to date on preference signals and we're so thankful to all those who made the event possible and took the time to attend. We plan to continue to convene our community members globally to gather input and, given the right funding opportunity, could be piloting a framework within the next year. We've published a summary and some thoughts on next steps on our blog. A huge thank you to our friends at Morrison Foerster, especially Justin Haan and Joe Gratz and NYU Law Engelberg Center on Innovation Law & Policy + Michael Weinberg for all of their support in making this workshop a success. And a special shoutout to our speakers and CC board members for their insights and ongoing support: Anna Tumadottir, Glenn O. Brown, Arun Sundararajan, Andy Parsons, Jordan Meyer, Greg Lindahl, Shayne Longpre, Marta Belcher, Delia Browne, James Grimmelmann, Angela Oduor Lungati, Bilal Randeree, Alek Tarkowski, Jeni Tennison, Luis Villa, Kat Walsh, Lawrence Lessig, and Katrina Southerland. https://lnkd.in/eqzvnaYY #GenerativeAI #GenAI #CreativeCommons #PreferenceSignals

#Wikimania by Wikimedia Foundation was amazing and we left with so many new ideas and shared moments of learning with the global community. If you'd like to catch up, you can start below with our session on the TAROCH Initiative where we discuss the value of open access to cultural heritage, co-chaired by CC and Fundacja Centrum Cyfrowe. It was a pleasure Maria Drabczyk, Fiona Romeo, Joanna Sanetra-Szeliga (UNESCO), and Ivan Martinez (R3D: Red en Defensa de los Derechos Digitales). Please watch the session here: https://loom.ly/9kduwLk.

What can we do to foster a vibrant and healthy commons in the face of rapid technological development? And how can we ensure that creators and knowledge-producing communities still have agency? These are just some of the questions that have been at the forefront of conversations in the community in regards to #AI and the Commons. Creative Commons' CEO, Anna Tumadóttir, explores questions, preference signaling, and more in our latest blog. Read: https://loom.ly/CaNsYnw.
