Open every mind to science.
About us
The mission of the Cox Science Center & Aquarium is to “open every mind to science.” The Center features more than 100 hands-on educational exhibits, a 10,000-gallon fresh and saltwater aquarium, a digital planetarium, Pre-K focused “Discovery Center,” 18-hole conservation-themed Mini Golf Course and quarter mile long outdoor science trail. One of the newest additions include a $2.5 million permanent exhibit, “Journey Through the Human Brain” and features the most advanced neuroscience research and technology in the world. In the spring of 2020, the facility added the Cox Amphitheater to its backyard Science Trail, which features daily live science shows, trivia sessions, and concerts. Guests bring picnic blankets and socially distance themselves in the grass field while being educated and entertained. The Center is not only active in West Palm Beach, but also operates a Jupiter outpost, STEM Studio in Downtown Abacoa. STEM Studio is a collaborative space that offers after school programming, weekend workshops, camps and more.

Meet Kelly Garvis, the Major Gifts Officer at the Cox Science Center and Aquarium, where she leads efforts to secure major gifts for the capital campaign, sponsorships, and the annual fund. Inspired by her mother, a high school science teacher, and with over nine years of fundraising experience in Palm Beach County, Kelly brings expertise and enthusiasm to advancing the center's mission. Kelly also gives back to the community by serving on the Steering Committee for Emerging Leaders at United Way Palm Beach County and as a judge for the Economic Council's Dwyer Awards for Excellence in Education. She is an active member of the fundraising community, serving on the board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Palm Beach County Chapter, where she co-chairs Programs. When she's not working or volunteering, Kelly loves spending time with her family and exploring Palm Beach County's natural beauty. If you’re excited to learn more about the incredible expansion underway at the Cox Science Center and Aquarium or looking for ways to get involved, Kelly is the perfect person to connect with! #CoxScienceCenter #OpenEveryMindtoScience

Ever wondered who comes up with the creative theming and descriptions to all the wonderful and educational science camps held at our Science Center? Well look no further than Joe, our Science Educator and Camp Manager here at the Cox Science Center and Aquarium! Though he's a wearer of many hats around the workplace, he has one goal no matter what role he is playing and that is curating curiosity. When he isn't corralling campers, connecting with their parents, or supporting his staff he can most likely be found partaking in whichever hobby has caught his interest on that day. Whether it be birding around South Florida, writing and reading novels, playing board games, or cooking a host of dishes from all over the world, he always seems to find time for discovery! Joe is extremely grateful for the opportunity to cultivate a love and appreciation for science in everyone he interacts with through his job and cannot wait for the conclusion of the highly anticipated expansion project where he will have an even greater opportunity to #OpenEveryMindtoScience #OpenEveryMindtoScience #CoxScienceCenter

Regional Development Manager at Operation Homefront Collaborating with community partners across the Southeast in support of military & veteran families.
This year, we dodged a tropical storm to host our Operation Homefront Back-to-School Brigade event in West Palm Beach, Florida! Long-time partner, Multi-Bank Securities, Inc., led the event by providing backpacks and school supply kits for 160 local children, with support from our friends at UBS and NewDay USA. In addition to their backpacks and supplies, children helped themselves to snack bags, water bottles, and fun lunch totes with accessories. We were also joined by several community resources including the Cox Science Center and Aquarium, David Kirkland and The Grey Team, HERD Foundation Delray, and others. Thanks to the Florida National Guard for allowing us to host families at the armory, and to volunteers Johnny Castro and Traci Caicedo for the local coordination! Meet Courtney Sanders, the Assistant Manager of Visitor Services. She ensures the smooth operation of public-facing services, from admissions to programs and exhibits. With a master's degree in museum studies, Courtney has been passionate about working in museums for over a decade. Her particular interest in science centers stems from their dynamic nature, offering opportunities to learn or experience something new every day. Outside of work, Courtney embraces her love for theater, particularly Broadway musicals. If she hadn't pursued a career in the museum field, she might have ventured into stage management, as she is captivated by the intricacies of running a show. In many ways, her role in visitor services mirrors this passion, as each day at the museum feels like an opportunity to live as if you are onstage. #CoxScienceCenter #OpenEveryMindtoScience
