  • As part of Johns Hopkins Activity and Mobility Promotion and safe patient handling education during Patient Care Services (PCS) orientation, members of the Cooper Rehabilitation team introduced the program and demonstrated techniques to prevent injuries and improve patient outcomes for inpatients whose mobility may be affected by their hospital stay. Engaging patients in movement during their hospital stay helps prevent blood clots, pneumonia, and muscle weakness, which in turn helps patients regain their strength and independence, making the transition back home smoother. Thank you to our Cooper Rehabilitation team members: Jamie Rubino, Sebastian Aksamit, Rebecca Ritsick, Ryan Murphy, Sarah Abbott, Arianna Thomas, and Christina Colclough, who led the training sessions. An additional thank you to our newest PCS team members for their enthusiastic participation.

  • On Friday, August 30, surgical oncologists at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper used histotripsy, an innovative noninvasive technology that uses sound waves to destroy cancerous liver tumors, to treat a patient. This makes MD Anderson at Cooper one of only 20 cancer centers worldwide, and the first in New Jersey and the Philadelphia region, to offer this treatment. Learn more about how histotripsy works and the significant advantages it has for patients here: https://bit.ly/4g5VfAp

  • “Homelessness and poor health often become a vicious cycle,” said Matthew S. Salzman, MD, an emergency medicine physician at Cooper University Health Care and medical director of research at the Center for Healing. “Lack of housing can negatively affect health and access to health care. Those experiencing homelessness often cannot access nutritious food or hygiene facilities, or stay on track with needed medications, appointments, and procedures — making them even less able to access employment and housing. The Housing First model we’re highlighting at this symposium is an evidence-based solution designed to break this cycle.” Read more: https://bit.ly/4750Fr4
