As we commemorate Juneteenth, we honor the enduring spirit and resilience of Black Americans in the face of centuries of oppression. This day marks the true liberation of enslaved people in the United States, a significant milestone in our nation’s ongoing journey toward justice and equality. At Cook County, we are committed to advancing these principles through our dedicated efforts to promote equity, justice, and community well-being. Our work, particularly through our Equity Fund Taskforce, reflects our dedication to implementing transformative systems-level changes that address structural barriers and create safe, healthy, and thriving communities for all residents, especially those who have been historically marginalized. Juneteenth is not just a historical date but a reminder of the work that remains to be done. As we reflect on this day, let us reaffirm our commitment to equity and justice in all aspects of our work. Together, we can build a Cook County where every individual has the opportunity to thrive and where the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion are woven into the fabric of our community. Happy Juneteenth!
