Thank you to Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio for your partnership during #HungerActionMonth and throughout the year. Food insecurity is an issue that touches every community in Ohio, and organizations like Second Harvest are working hard to change that. Second Harvest distributes nutritious food to over 100 partner charities, feeding tens of thousands of Ohioans in Crawford, Erie, Huron and Lorain counties. The start of September also marks the start of Hunger Action Month, and that means we’ll be joining our partners across the state who are committed to ending hunger in Ohio. According to Feeding America, one in seven adults and one in five children in Ohio are living with food insecurity. Let’s work together to change that. From Athens to Springfield, central and northeastern Ohio to Toledo, you can join us in supporting one of the many organizations working to feed our neighbors, friends and community members across the state. Thank you to all who stopped by our table during Columbus ArborFest on Saturday! We loved being at this inaugural event that celebrated sustainability and the natural beauty of central Ohio with 2,000-plus visitors. We joined OHIO811 to share natural gas safety information and talk about the importance of calling 811 two business days before a digging project.

Employees such as Columbia Gas of Ohio Field Technician Curtis Van Vlerah demonstrate how the safety of our communities is at the forefront for our team every single day. After observing a highway accident one morning last year, he stopped to assist a semi-truck driver and passenger using his training from 18 years in the military and tenure at NiSource. Curtis was among NiSource's 2024 Mission Medallion Award recipients for his work doing the right thing to help keep others safe. We are grateful for the role team members like Curtis play in our local communities.

Thank you to African American Male Wellness Agency for having us Saturday during the Black Men’s Wellness Day 5K Walk/Run! In addition to the run/walk, the day included health screenings and a post-race festival. Columbia team members staffed a table to share critical natural gas safety information, kid-friendly activities and plastic hard hats, and important OHIO811 safe digging materials.

Thank you to Connecting Kids to Meals for having us and Toledo Jeep Fest yesterday! Our three organizations came together for the fourth year in a row in celebration of Toledo Jeep Fest to pack lunches and load them into Jeep vehicles to take to children living in northwest Ohio. Together, we prepared 375 plates and 180 weekend bag totes for children living in food insecurity in Lucas, Wood, Hancock, Seneca and Williams counties. We also donated 12 cases of disinfectant wipes.

Congratulations to Curtis Van Vlerah and Joe Cottrill, field technicians in Ohio and NiSource Mission Medallion Award recipients! We want to thank all the Mission Medallion Award winners for their incredible work across Columbia Gas and NiSource.

Thank you to the Ohio Fire Chiefs' Associationfor having us at the Ohio Fire & Rescue Officer Development conference. We appreciated the opportunity to connect with emergency responders from across Ohio. We sponsored a table to offer free training opportunities for the fire departments in attendance and share natural gas safety information.
