As part of our continued commitment to client security, I’m happy to share Coheso has received its SOC2 Type II certification. For our friends and clients in the EU and UK, the company is also GDPR compliant. In addition to the above, we’ve been focused on sharing thought leadership at the intersection of security & AI and contributing our perspectives to this important topic. As just one example, my co-founder Manish Agnihotri recently spoke on a panel “Safeguarding Legal Tech: Navigating Security Challenges in LLM Applications” at the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) – Evolve conference as covered by Legaltech News. Adding the new badge to our website soon. 😁 #SOC2 #GDPR #security #legaltech

Great to be back in San Francisco last week with Aditya Rathod at Legal Innovators California. Our second conference for Coheso with more to come throughout the year. Really appreciated the opportunity to share a presentation on Making In-House Legal Work More Human in the GenAI Era. More importantly, as always with Legal Innovators, I learned a tremendous amount from the other speakers and panelists. Caught the red-eye back for my daughter’s 8th grade “graduation”. Land at JFK at 6:00 am. In my seat at the ceremony in CT by 8:30 am. 😅 #legaltech #GenAI #inhousecounsel

We're diving deep into the critical topic of security in AI, particularly within legal operations. As AI technologies become increasingly integral to our workflows, understanding how to safeguard sensitive data and comply with regulations is paramount.

Security considerations in LLMs/GenAI are crucial yet often overlooked. CLOC (Corporate Legal Operations Consortium) #CGI24 is doing a commendable job in advancing this dialogue. I attended a session titled “5 Questions Every Legal Ops Professional Should Ask Their CISOs,” and here’s a concise summary: 1. Frequency of Meetings: How often should the CISO and legal ops meet? The consensus seemed to be once a quarter. 2. Data Integrity: When training or fine-tuning models, it’s vital to ensure the quality of the data, including redacting personally identifiable information (PII). 3. Framework Adoption: What framework should Legal Department Operations (LDOs) adopt before purchasing technology? The NIST AI Risk Management Framework is an excellent starting point. 4. Regulated Industries: What additional precautions should I take if using Gen AI in regulated industries? The key is to ensure compliance with industry-specific regulations and conduct regular audits to maintain adherence. 5. Vendor Red Flags: Which words or actions from a tech vendor should raise alarms? Phrases like “using your data” and “fine-tuning” should prompt further inquiries to fully understand where and how your data is being utilized. Some additional security concerns not covered in the talk include: 1. Prompt Injection: This involves unauthorized users injecting malicious input into AI prompts, potentially leading to undesirable outputs. To avoid this, implement strict input validation and monitoring systems. 2. Privilege Escalation: Inadequate access control may allow unauthorized access to sensitive data. It’s essential to enforce role-based access controls and regularly review permissions. 3.Model Denial of Service (DoS): Preventing a high volume of requests from certain users that could lead to API unavailability for others requires rate limiting and robust monitoring. 4. Supply Chain Vulnerabilities: Ensure that all components used in the AI pipeline, such as AI frameworks and vector databases, are secure and up to date to mitigate risks. What other key security considerations should legal operations professionals keep in mind when deploying AI solutions in their organizations? #LegalTech #SecurityInAI #Cybersecurity #DataProtection #LegalOperations #LLM #GenAI #OWASP
