About us
Like most respected firms, we have many ways to tout our skill, our experience, and our results. But what makes Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass different can’t be quantified by the number of awards we’ve won or how many recognizable names there are on our client list (although we are proud that there are plenty of both). Our difference comes from a strong connection: to our clients, to each other, and to our community. It’s a connection that surpasses the business relationship and celebrates the entrepreneurial drive harnessed to build a thriving business or win tough court cases by doing what’s right for the client in the long term. When you hire Coblentz, you get a partner in every sense of the word. You’ll work directly with a partner of our firm and enjoy all the benefits of having the best and the brightest in your corner. And the relationship you’ll build with all the members of our highly skilled and accessible team will be one you’ll value and trust, year after year. Having such strong relationships—with our clients and each other—means we’re able to offer the service of a boutique firm with the strength and expertise of a much larger one. We reevaluate matters all along the way to make sure we’re doing everything possible to bring an efficient and effective resolution. And because we’re nimble and experienced, we can take sophisticated, creative, and practical approaches that save our clients both time and money. We believe there is life outside the office, and our commitment to community extends to our own families—and beyond. This is evidenced by our pro bono track record and our firm’s many contributions to civil rights, education, and other pressing needs in our community. We’re proud of the firm and client relationships that we’ve built over the last 130 years. We work hard. We give our clients the highest caliber work. We’re good citizens. And we get results.

Several new state privacy laws are going into effect, with several more coming in 2025, while a federal privacy law continues to be discussed that would further change the privacy landscape across the country. On June 28, the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) determined that San Francisco has not made adequate progress toward its State-mandated housing production goal. The California Supreme Court recently upheld the Environmental Impact Report for the Long Range Development Plan for UC Berkeley and a controversial housing project at a site known as People’s Park. In so doing, it applied the principle that “no matter how important its original purpose, [CEQA] remains a legislative act, subject to legislative limitation and legislative amendment.” Read more by Robert Hodil here: https://bit.ly/3VCiSXQ #landuselaw #CEQA #coblentzlaw

Coblentz was proud to be a sponsor for the Judicial Intern Opportunity Program (JIOP), a program that helps place hundreds of historically underrepresented law students in judicial externships nationwide. The San Francisco Chapter held its orientation at the Phillip Burton Federal Building, Northern District of California District Courthouse on June 17. Fred Alvarez spoke on “Diversity in the Legal Profession: Oh! The Places You’ll Go” with California Supreme Court Justice Martin Jenkins, and San Francisco ABA Working Group Leader and proud JIOP alumna Amber Leong moderated the discussion and planned this year’s program. #americanbarassociation #JIOP #coblentzlaw
