THE CHIEF MARKETING OFFICERS OF WASHINGTON DC - IT'S BEEN A BIG WEEK! It has been a BIG week for everyone, and especially the Chief Marketing Officers of Washington DC (DMV) here at the epicenter of the nation's capital. It was wonderful to get together for Club CMO's Washington DC Chapter Q4-2024 dinner event that brought together a stellar group of marketing leaders with great discussions on marketing leadership and insights (leaving everything politics at the door). Thank you Nerissa Sardi for joining us and it was exciting to hear everything you have in store for the Club in 2025! We left with our strategy gears turning and a shared understanding: in marketing leadership, adaptability, peer-support & knowledge sharing is everything! Kudos to all who joined and shared their stories. Already excited for Q1-2025! #ClubCMO #MarketingLeadership #NetworkingWithPurpose #WashingtonDC #MeaningfulConnections #HappyHolidays

This week, the Club CMO Portland chapter convened with a mix of long-standing and new members. In addition to catching up with one another and hearing about last month's Club CMO Summit from local members who attended, we welcomed our guest, Patrick Payne, founder of PopCandi, who guided us through a thoughtful discussion on the current state of executive marketing recruitment. He shared insightful observations on what CEOs are looking for in their next leaders in growth, brand, and marketing. He also highlighted a common issue: CMO resumes mis-aligned with the elements recruiters are seeking when representing their clients. We shared experiences and tangible ways to alleviate these mis-matches in our own profiles, resumes, and personal brand efforts to make sure our qualifications are differentiated and seen. We had a great evening with the #ClubCMO Boston chapter on Monday. Excellent food, great discussion, new connections, learnings, laughs, and some new vacation destinations to try. We focused on 2025 planning, challenges, technology, and new opportunities. A few take-aways from our conversation: 1. 🤝 Leveraging partner relationships to expand #GTM reach will be key for many in ‘25. #Nearbound / #Allbound for the win. 2. 🤖 AI-based technologies will continue to redefine how we go to market, think about skillsets needed on our teams and how to pivot, extend budgets so we can “do more with less." 3. 📈 Metrics for success…MQL/SQL are out and the focus needs to be on pipeline and revenue numbers.  Teams have to work together to drive results.  The only way to get there is to focus on a joint metric versus siloed metrics for each departments. We may not align on definitions of many acronyms but all groups can align on pipeline and revenue numbers. 4. 🔄 GTM is all inclusive - be transparent across departments (marketing, sales, partner, product, technical, finance): meet regularly, communicate, listen, plan as a group and drive pipeline. 5. 😃 Customer experience is paramount - get their insights frequently and act on the info. 6. 🕵♀️ Be the customer - Teams should experience your process, leadership not excluded.  Eye-opening experiment, have your leadership engage with your company (anonymously) and go through the process of becoming a prospect/customer. Who knows, could have a positive impact on budget when you need to do “more” but have “less” ;) 7. 👤 👤 CMOs should be focused on building relationships with their CFO/CRO. 8. 💰 Buying teams continue to get bigger and bigger, and involved earlier. When engaging with prospects, provide your ROI messaging and proof very early. The CFO/finance is involved much earlier and you need their checkmark to move forward. I am so grateful to have this opportunity to get together with other CMOs and heads of marketing to learn from, as well as reinforce or validate some of my thoughts. Thank you to co-chapter president Evelyn Swaim for facilitating the discussions and to everyone that was able to join us. It was so great to see everyone: Olga Noha, Alan Gonsenhauser, Pam Boiros, Lawrence Schwartz, Amy Reinert, Jessica Crimmins, Carter Holland, Cynthia Gumbert, Gary Lombardo, David Gutierrez, Eric-Jan (EJ) Schmidt, Pat Walsh, Allison J. Snow If you are interested in learning more about ClubCMO, visit https://club-cmo.com/ or reach out to me or Evelyn directly. 📅 We have an exciting event coming up in December. Mark 12/17 on your calendars now to reserve the date. More details coming soon. #BostonCMO #CMOCommunity #GTM #Marketing

Transformative Entertainer. Multimedia bespoke storyteller. Poet.

Was such an honor to create and share a new piece “What We’re Made Of” at ClubCMO last week in San Diego. The piece is about leadership and bringing our full creative self to problem solving and taking action in this moment and it’s one of the best pieces we’ve created with the team at SpokenCinema, which includes of course my partner David Fischette. Such a thrill to try new things and was so happy to take a risk and push ourselves and get such a great reaction (including a standing ovation) and feel the love and excitement in the room. It’s always a thrill to be at CMO with so many amazing innovators and story tellers all learning to tell a better story of who we are. David Fischette did an incredible job producing the event (as always) and holding a space of excellence for us all. And Nerissa Sardi set a high bar and cleared it in taking CMO to places it can only go with her vision and heart guiding it. @chrisweaver and his band rocked as did all the other artists and speakers who graced the stage and it was a joy to perform speak inspire and host the entire thing.

Steve Connell’s powerful spoken cinema piece, "What You Are Made Of," was a turning point in our summit, reminding us of the profound impact of self-recognition and inner motivation. Through his vivid visuals and compelling voice, Steve reignited our passion and emphasized the importance of understanding our true selves. As we navigate our professional growth, it’s crucial to remember that our journey begins with us. Steve’s message resonated deeply: without people, problems remain unsolved. His piece challenged us to look beyond surface metrics to recognize the trials and tribulations that shape our unique paths. In a world where we often feel defined by external expectations, Steve reminded us that true winning is more than a result—it’s an approach. This summit isn’t just about gathering insights; it’s about learning from each other, growing together, and embracing both our victories and setbacks. We are a team, and our collective growth and success depend on the connections we make and the support we offer each other. Steve Connell’s session was a powerful reminder of the importance of self-discovery and the strength we find in unity.
