We had a great evening with the #ClubCMO Boston chapter on Monday. Excellent food, great discussion, new connections, learnings, laughs, and some new vacation destinations to try.
We focused on 2025 planning, challenges, technology, and new opportunities. A few take-aways from our conversation:
1. 🤝 Leveraging partner relationships to expand #GTM reach will be key for many in ‘25. #Nearbound / #Allbound for the win.
2. 🤖 AI-based technologies will continue to redefine how we go to market, think about skillsets needed on our teams and how to pivot, extend budgets so we can “do more with less."
3. 📈 Metrics for success…MQL/SQL are out and the focus needs to be on pipeline and revenue numbers. Teams have to work together to drive results. The only way to get there is to focus on a joint metric versus siloed metrics for each departments. We may not align on definitions of many acronyms but all groups can align on pipeline and revenue numbers.
4. 🔄 GTM is all inclusive - be transparent across departments (marketing, sales, partner, product, technical, finance): meet regularly, communicate, listen, plan as a group and drive pipeline.
5. 😃 Customer experience is paramount - get their insights frequently and act on the info.
6. 🕵♀️ Be the customer - Teams should experience your process, leadership not excluded. Eye-opening experiment, have your leadership engage with your company (anonymously) and go through the process of becoming a prospect/customer. Who knows, could have a positive impact on budget when you need to do “more” but have “less” ;)
7. 👤 👤 CMOs should be focused on building relationships with their CFO/CRO.
8. 💰 Buying teams continue to get bigger and bigger, and involved earlier. When engaging with prospects, provide your ROI messaging and proof very early. The CFO/finance is involved much earlier and you need their checkmark to move forward.
I am so grateful to have this opportunity to get together with other CMOs and heads of marketing to learn from, as well as reinforce or validate some of my thoughts.
Thank you to co-chapter president Evelyn Swaim for facilitating the discussions and to everyone that was able to join us. It was so great to see everyone: Olga Noha, Alan Gonsenhauser, Pam Boiros, Lawrence Schwartz, Amy Reinert, Jessica Crimmins, Carter Holland, Cynthia Gumbert, Gary Lombardo, David Gutierrez, Eric-Jan (EJ) Schmidt, Pat Walsh, Allison J. Snow
