We've been glued to the news this week watching the second high-impact hurricane in as many weeks unfold, leaving behind destruction that is still being exposed. As people begin sorting out what is left behind from these events, they are turning for help to the claims professionals who are the cornerstone of the CLM Community. We see you and care about each of you, especially as you face the tasks ahead of you now. 💙 We encourage our membership to take a moment and read the following post from Heather Blevins CPCU, ITP, M. Ed. Her view of repetitive exposure to traumatic stress takes on fresh meaning today, as do her suggestions for supporting everyone working in the field and on the phones in the aftermath of both #HurricaneHelene and #HurricaneMilton...and really every day. Thanks, Heather. We couldn't have said it better ourselves. 💙 #Insurance #ClaimsManagement #LitigationManagement #InsuranceDefense #CLMCommunity
Rebel Thoughts ✌️ When I talk about repetitive exposure to traumatic stress and its impact on claims adjusters, I’m constantly reminded of how important our claims professionals are to the #insurance ecosystem. 👉🏻 They deliver the promise of a complicated contract that most consumers don’t understand. Yeah, those claims adjusters are literally responsible for handing over the intangible product that is sold to customers: the realization of the aleatory contract that is often maligned because of its nature. 👉🏻 They show up in the worst moments of policyholder’s lives as humans. That means they carry the stress of everything that is happening in their own lives with them. 👉🏻 They are expected to perform claims wizardry at superhuman levels of speed, and deliver service with the highest attention to accuracy and quality. 👉🏻They see devastation and destruction in others lives on a regular basis, and are usually never taught how to manage their own human reactions to what they witness. 👉🏻 And they are asked to do all of the above on very little sleep, in alien locations many times, and sometimes without proper access to food, water and resources. This week another horrific Cat5 hurricane bears down on the Florida coast and another traumatic event is going to rock our claims workforces. 💯 Remember they are human. ⏰ Give them decompression time. 🧘 Help them to practice mindfulness & self-care. 👂 Listen and be an accountability partner for them for wellness, and emotional support. 🙌 Help them to know it’s ok to not be ok. For now, just stay safe everyone please. Don’t wait, evacuate. 🌀 #rebelthoughts #rebelleads #hurricaneseason #HurricaneMilton #resilience
