Serving then, serving now… In honor of Veterans Day, the City recently hosted a special internal “Cuisine & Conversation” with our Veteran City staff who served in the Air Force, Army, Army National Guard, Navy, Marines and U.S. Coast Guard. They continue to live a life of service today as your public servants here at the City of Roseville.  Over 50 City staff gathered during lunch as our panel members shared their personal military journeys, defining experiences, lessons learned, memorable moments, advice for how to support our military veterans, and how their service carries over to their jobs and lives today. They spoke about teamwork, embracing diversity, overcoming fear, pushing yourself beyond what you thought capable, using the resources you have to accomplish the mission, the importance of commitment and camaraderie, and the traditions, pride and higher ideals of service that unite them in protecting and serving our country. “The most valuable resource is people and the team; establishing a rapport,” said James Kremko, Public Works Manager. “You learn other people are relying on you and you’re relying on them. You learn to embrace looking through someone else’s lens. That really changed the dynamic of who I am and how I led teams.” “Every job on the team matters to the success of the mission and our culture of service,” said Deputy City Manager Megan Scheid. “Whether you’re at the ‘tip of the spear’ interacting with the public like police, fire, code enforcement, childcare, transit, building permits, libraries, and passports, or you’re part of the support team like HR, payroll, or budget.”  These types of events are an important part of our City culture for fostering belonging and connection as a people-first organization and understanding the greater community we serve. On behalf of the City of Roseville, thank you to all our military Veterans for your service to our country. And a very special thank you to our panel of Veteran staff for sharing a part of your journey: Alan Rogers, United States Army (Development Services) Chuck Pirone, United States Army & California National Guard (PRL) James Kremko, United States Air Force (Public Works) Mark Wolinski, United States Marine Corps (Public Affairs & Communications) Megan Scheid, United States Navy (Public Affairs & Communications) Paul Krug, United States Coast Guard (Environmental Utilities) Rich Frost, United States Air Force (Public Works)

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, over 50 City of Roseville employees gathered over lunch on October 15 for “Cuisine and Conversation,” a time for sharing a meal and cherished memories while building connections over the many backgrounds, origins, beliefs, and traditions of Hispanic heritage. “Our cultural identity plays a significant role in shaping our experiences, behaviors, beliefs, and overall well-being. It influences how we perceive the world, interact with others, and understand ourselves. It’s so important to not only commemorate these traditions and contributions, but to celebrate them, discuss them and participate in events like today where we get a better understanding of these layers,” said Economic Development Director Melissa Anguiano.   As part of the event, Melissa moderated a panel discussion with City Clerk Carmen Avalos, Victor Nava from our Information Technology department, and Linda Mauer from our Parks, Recreation & Libraries department. Each shared personal stories about their family heritage, cultural traditions, childhood memories, and part of what makes them who they are today. It was a great opportunity to build connections, celebrate who employees are as individuals, and to better understand the many backgrounds of our colleagues and those we serve in the Roseville community. The event was sponsored by the City of Roseville’s internal Inclusion Committee and is one of a series of events hosted throughout the year to highlight the diverse backgrounds that make up our City team. #WeAreRoseville

We are excited to share that our City Council meeting last night (October 16, 2024), the Roseville City Council approved a $5 million, 12-year naming rights agreement with Placer Valley Tourism, marking a significant milestone in the city's efforts to expand sports tourism. The soccer complex will officially be named the Placer Valley Soccer Complex for the opening scheduled in late 2025. “We are thrilled to officially introduce the Placer Valley Soccer Complex,” said Jill Geller, Roseville Parks, Recreation & Libraries Director. “Our partnership with Placer Valley Tourism is a natural fit given our shared commitment to advancing sports tourism in Roseville. Their financial support will help with the continued development and maintenance of the complex, ensuring it remains a top-tier facility that provides both recreational and economic benefits to the community for years to come.” The Placer Valley Soccer Complex, located at 2600 Westbrook Blvd in west Roseville, is slated to open in late 2025 with tournaments and events starting in 2026. It will feature 10 artificial-turf fields designed for multiple sports including soccer, flag football, field hockey, lacrosse, rugby, and quadball and will also be a great venue for social/fundraising events. The complex is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, further establishing Roseville as a premier sports destination and boosting local tourism. In addition to this agreement, the Roseville City Council also approved a $120,000, 3-year naming rights agreement with the Roseville Automall for two prominent plazas within the complex. These plazas, to be named the Roseville Automall North Plaza and Roseville Automall South Plaza, will enhance the visitor experience and provide additional visibility for the Roseville Automall. “The Placer Valley Soccer Complex will be a tremendous asset to our region,” said Dominick Casey, Roseville City Manager. “We’re thankful for the support of the Roseville Automall and Placer Valley Tourism and excited to welcome athletes and families from Northern California and beyond to enjoy this world-class facility in Roseville.” This project reflects the City of Roseville’s ongoing commitment to expanding recreational opportunities, promoting healthy lifestyles, and driving economic growth. The complex will serve as a hub for regional sports tourism, benefiting local businesses and providing new opportunities for athletes of all ages. Additional naming rights opportunities for individual fields and the universally accessible playground are still available. These opportunities provide businesses and organizations with the chance to support the community while gaining visibility in a highly trafficked venue. More information on the Placer Valley Soccer Complex is available at https://lnkd.in/grAjVmuT.

Congrats to our Parks, Recreation & Libraries (PRL) department for being named a finalist for the prestigious National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management for the third consecutive year. The award winner was named at the National Recreation and Park Assocation (NRPA) annual conference in Atlanta last week where South Suburban Park and Recreation District was announced as the grand prize winner. BIG CONGRATS to South Suburban on their win! They say it's an honor just to be nominated, and our PRL staff truly feels that. Grateful for the recognition and excited to be considered among such talented agencies across the nation. To be 1 of 4 finalists is a direct reflection of the shared values and unwavering commitment of PRL staff to making Roseville a wonderful place to live, work, and play. Staff never do the work for awards. They do it for our amazing community and feel grateful for the support of our residents! Congrats PRL Team!
