Congratulations to the Kettering Leadership Academy (KLA) graduating class of 2024! KLA is a fantastic opportunity to learn about all of the wonderful facets of the city of Kettering, while also gaining professional and personal growth. Each KLA class works to develop projects that will help or enhance the Kettering community. The class of 2024 is proud to introduce two new programs to Kettering! Sparky’s Closet was inspired by Fairmont High School teacher Susan Frey. The goal of the program is to support students and families in need during clothing emergencies in a supportive, judgement free and confidential atmosphere. Beavertown Elementary School will serve as the pilot location for this program, with hopes to expand to other schools throughout the district. The Greenmont Elementary Summer Book Nook is focused on combatting summer slide by improving literacy skills while students are off for summer break. Children ages 1-18 will have access to a variety of books while attending the Greenmont FREE Summer Lunch program, June 3 through August 2. Books will be replenished as needed thanks to donations from Kettering businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals. Class participants were required to develop the idea, seek funding, and develop a sustainability plan to help ensure the ongoing success and benefits to the need being addressed. Generous support was provided by the Kettering Noon Optimists, Dorwood Optimists, Dayton Metro Libraries and We Care Arts. The Kettering Leadership Academy (KLA) is now accepting applications for the 2024-2025 class. Apply at https://lnkd.in/g-m7ssWf or call 937-296-2433. Applications must be received by end of day June 17.
